Chip, I can't help but think
but way back when when you somehow won the right to sit in the dugout and watch your first VT softball game, if someone would have told you that at some point in the future, you would be the "featured guru" on a TSL podcast with the head softball coach discussing VT softball, would you have ever believed them?!! You seem such a natural at it! While I am at it, Carter really does a great job as well - great presentation style and very well thought out questions.

I wonder what Stanford's travel itinerary is for this week
Did they charter a plane and simply make a stop off in Lexington on the way to Blacksburg? If so, that's pretty straightforward. But if they flew commercial, I wonder how they worked in a one day stopover in Lexington. My guess is a charter or heck, maybe Stanford even has their own jet that they can use to fly their athletes around to things like this. If so, how nice is that, especially since they are now in the ACC?!

Absolutely agree HF!
My God, how much would it cost to at least just upgrade the press boxes and add some Hokie stone highlights to it and other parts of the stadium? It just seems like it wouldn't take much to go from "fugly" to "that looks pretty cool!".

I wouldn't be surprised if the UVa coach sort of even "apologized" to Pete for "playing the illegal substitution card" but in that situation, you HAVE to do that. Your job is to WIN and if playing that card gets you out of a bases loaded jam, you damn well better play the card!

This post and that second picture
are large reasons why I support this program! First, Chip, I love everything you do for this program and it's fans. Your energy, passion, enthusiasm and positive nature are so refreshing! And then Emma Ritter...the embodiment of all that you could want a student athlete to be - a super-talented athlete, impeccable character, role model for the younger aspiring female athletes...I could go on and on. Great things are in that young lady's future! And then last but certainly not least...lil Arthur!! What else needs to be said?! For all those VT sports fans who haven't really followed softball that closely, trust me, jump on the bandwagon - you won't regret it! It's so refreshing and simply a lot of fun to follow!

Oh no!
If this is the John that I often sat next to when I attended my first VT softball games last year (and I believe it is), I echo everything Chip said. Even though I barely got to know John, I could just tell he was one of those "salt of the earth" kind of guys that the world needs more of. Yes, Hokie Nation lost a good one - condolences to his friends and family. And special condolences to you Chip as I know you lost a good friend and I know it will be with a heavy heart that you will cheering on the ladies today and tomorrow.

When Giving Day closes, let us know what the donor # and $ totals were that were done via your link. I am sure most of those will be towards softball although I know some have used your link to also give to other areas as well. I am guessing a good chunk of that $30k+ softball money came via your link, demonstrating once again the value and power you bring to VT softball fundraising!!

Agree, click on "athletics" and one can see the breakdown
for the different sports in terms of number of donations but you can't see the total $ donated to that particular sport.

Funny, I was trying to see today how much money had been donated to softball via "Giving Day" and as far as I could tell, one cannot see a specific sport breakdown. All I could see was what the total to "athletics" is. I am pretty sure in years past, one could look at sport specific donors/tallies. It is utterly ridiculous how this university still struggles with all issues related to donating money ie ease of doing it, transparency, etc.

Yes, it's a bit of a "flaw" in the system
but 10 donations of $25 each is "better" than one donation of $250 when it comes to qualifying for the bonus dollars softball might qualify for.

VT softball and fans like me are EXTREMELY fortunate/blessed to have a dedicated die hard fan like yourself doing ALL that you do for Hokie softball! In fact, I would not even be a fan AT ALL if it weren't for you! Once again, you are the walking definition of Ut Prosim!! BTW too, I am sure you were damn good working in human resources but man oh man, what could have been in the world of sports journalism!!! I am still glad we get to sample those talents ongoing - please don't hang up the "pen"!

I sure would love to catch a string of games again this spring!
I had a blast in my "rookie season" last year!! I need to look at the schedule again and see if/how I can work a trip in around this thing called work! It would be great to catch up with "the gang" ie you, VTChip, laphroaig, John, etc again - you guys were awesome!

it pains me to say I agree! MSU is just a solid team all around and well coached. Just a matter of time before a bigger school tries to lure Coach Brett Vigen away.

I'm still a relative newbie to VT softball
but is this a relatively normal amount of home games/series or is this less than normal? It just doesn't seem like a lot to me. Obviously I know weather limits what you can schedule early in the season but still...

Do you know, does that $42,357 include the $13,000 bonuses that they
qualified for by having the most donors, etc or was that $13k IN ADDITION? Regardless, according to Chip, this amount is enough to charter a jet for the California games next year. That being said, not sure if that is the BEST use of those resources but I will leave it up to Pete and co to decide that. It would be cool though to send the ladies out west "in style"! That wouldn't hurt recruiting, that's for sure!

Damn, with numbers like that, now we have to worry
about CHIP being recruited away to the likes of Oklahoma!!! We had better start an NIL fund to keep Chip at VT!!!! Seriously Chip, what else can be said? - simply INCREDIBLE what you have done and continue to do!!! The thing too is I guarantee you that you are responsible for even more funds coming in for softball than the $261,636 because I know there are plenty of people who have been led to support VT softball because of your efforts but instead of sending you a check, they send it directly to the HC and thus you likely never know about a lot of those monies.
