Proposed to BOV?
As I understand it, proposed student fee increases are in support of the following athletic initiatives, along with other non athletic endeavors. Does anyone have more insight? Particularly looking for any substance that describes what #6 includes (as opposed to what I would HOPE it includes) ** Edited by Hokie4Life_89 at 3/18/2025, 11:35:57 AM

I just don’t get “scoreboard” improvements
Are they that bad? Or does an improved scoreboard increase attendance, I don’t think so.

I know Pete has said in the past that the softball stadium doesn't get you
to the postseason but it would be really cool to update ours and make it one of the nicest places to play not necessarily the biggest. The softball program deserves it at this point. Year in and year out they field a good to great team.

Absolutely agree HF!
My God, how much would it cost to at least just upgrade the press boxes and add some Hokie stone highlights to it and other parts of the stadium? It just seems like it wouldn't take much to go from "fugly" to "that looks pretty cool!". ** Edited by gelded turkey at 3/18/2025, 2:50:58 PM

I think it is pretty expensive
I think we get one shot at this for the next 10+ years. As much as an annual facility commitment of $1M/year over 10+ years might make sense, I don’t think it would continue to make the budget. It doesn’t make sense to build good on top of bad (the erector set) to me, so you spend a fair amount of money just replacing the base infrastructure. Unfortunately, every year that we don’t do this, the cost of upgrading stadiums seems to be growing faster than inflation. I don’t know that we can get to “pretty cool” for less than $10M. If softball is the #6 athletic priority in the 6 year plan, I’m going to protect my heart and not get too hopeful yet. We desperately need a softball enthusiast with DEEP pockets!

Someone get the VTAD to start a
targeted campaign with a clearly defined monetary goal and proposed outcome, e.g. we want to raise 5 million dollars, which will enable us to do such and such.
