3 games, 4/11 - 13 is 3 games, etc, and 3/19 is a doubleheader. There are 16 home games plus 5 in Salem.

Realizing that "past performance is no indicator of future results," I thought it would be interesting to break down this year's opponents based on last year's post season play.
The Hokies will play 5 games against teams that made it to the College World Series - Alabama (2) and Stanford (3)
They will play 5 more games against teams that made it to the Super Regionals - LSU (2) and FSU (3)
They will play 14 more games against teams that received NCAA bids - Northwestern, Liberty (2), Villanova (2), Penn State, Kentucky, UVA (3), Charlotte, and Cal (3).
If they do reasonably well against those teams, then hosting is not out of the question as strength of schedule should be pretty decent.
But one game at a time!

I think both of those teams have a let-down year this year too.

Can very easily go up and back in a day to Lexington from here, shorter drive than Blacksburg for me.
Also scary thought, I even remembered the stadium name when mapping it out lol.

but is this a relatively normal amount of home games/series or is this less than normal? It just doesn't seem like a lot to me. Obviously I know weather limits what you can schedule early in the season but still...

although we only had five home games scheduled in 2022 and two of those got cancelled.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of teams that want to come to Blacksburg.

After the first week, the Hokies will play 13 of their next 20 against teams who played in the post=season last year.
Great early season challenge.

All the talent went with the head coach to South Carolina and they were having open tryouts to try and fill out a roster this year.

Drake was 23-26 last year, 11-13 in the Valley Conference.
Southern Utah was 21-29 last season, 10-19 in the WAC.

At first glance, I thought the same thing you did, but take a look at the snapshot below.
Bucknell vs Queens plays at 12:30
The next entry says "vs JMU at 3:00" which means VT versus JMU
Two lines down, "vs Villanova at 5:30" means VT versus Villanova.
As I said ,it's an easy miss.
Remember this is a VT schedule page.
