Posting History (588)

Hit 2 homers and a double today!

Vs. Chinese Taipai. She's not on the WNT but is on the US Women's Elite team.

I actually went to HS with the author of that article

He has contacted me a couple times over the years, as I believe one group of parents from even before my kid played there, is still complaining. I'll tell you what I told him. This has not been our experience, and we've not even heard anything like this. Yes, there are kids who don't play who think they should, (can't believe this is still a thing at a P4 school, but it is) but the reality is the most deserving kids play. This will go nowhere since it seems to be a group of disgruntled parents whose kids didn't get to play much. If it's the players I believe it is, then they should have transferred down or somewhere else. Playing at the P4 level is an honor and a privilege, and the student-athletes need to see it that way. It is essentially a job - it's not baby travel or high school or daddy ball - you are getting a great education for either nothing or pennies on the dollar. If you don't like it and think you're better than what they think, surely another school will take you. The facts is, that you don't see kids transferring out of UVa hardly at all. Heck, one kid in my daughter's class has "'Hoos" tattooed to the bottom inside of her lip!! 99.9% of the kids enjoy their time. There were kids there not even on scholarship who don't play and stick it out because they enjoyed the team, the comaraderie, and the sport. So, bottom line from my perspective at least, is that it's a group of maybe 2-3 parents who still think their kids are better than they are.

Given all of this - what is needed to get over that Regional hump?

It can't just be all pitching right? We seem to struggle, in general, against more elite pitching. We scored 2 total runs vs. LSU in 2 games this year. 2025 we scored 5 total runs vs. Alabama last year in 2 games. 2024 we scored 1 vs. GCU and 6 against UCLA. 2023 we scored 6 total in 2 games vs. UGA ** Edited by VT_AD at 6/26/2026, 10:54:33 AM

Exactly, I remember her in travel some

and I was surprised she was a VT recruit because I don't honestly remember anything special about her except she caught Emma and Millie. She really developed under Pete as most do.

Daughter went to Tincher, Reynolds, and Daniels

Tincher clearly was the most polished and professional instructor. Reynolds is good for new pitchers and Daniels is good if you're a prototype size. Tincher seemed to adjust based on the pitcher and of course Angela was really good. ** Edited by VT_AD at 5/26/2026, 12:52:46 PM ** Edited by VT_AD at 5/26/2026, 12:53:16 PM

Having been to camps and things like that

and hearing some stories through players is what I'm talking about.

Always tough following a legend at your school.

You could see the slow decline of that program after Riley "retired". I'd say they have worse facilities than all of the D1 teams in the state. It wasn't long ago that Liberty, JMU, and Longwood were arguably the better programs in the state. I'm glad to see things have changed with the big programs in the state. ** Edited by VT_AD at 5/5/2026, 9:45:05 AM

Not sure he's actually from Roanoke

North Cross is just a private school in Roanoke. Players come from all over to play there.

You HAVE to get a top 5 type pitcher like the the one in VA going to UT-K

Kaylee Hodges (Matoaca): 2024-25 Gatorade Player of the Year, with a 0.07 ERA and 244 strikeouts. So many elite VA pitchers have left the state like Kathryn Sandercock, Valerie Cagle, Peyton St. George . . . Of course VT had the best of all time in Angela but we didn't have the offense and development we do now under Coach Pete.

Very similar to UVa's stadium

with more seating ** Edited by VT_AD at 4/16/2026, 3:00:46 PM

Daughter told me UVa wanted her badly

when she camped there. You could see the athleticism and talent.

That is correct. Spoke with a BOV guy and he wanted to put them in

but he was voted down as they tried to build the program so they prepped the area for future expansion.

UVa just lost 2 starters to injury FYI

Just giving that news as we lead up to the series. Bella Cabral starting 3B .411, 10 HR 37 RBI and starting outfielder Kassidy Hudson .269/1 HR 18 RBI

My daughter played with their oldest daughter

on the Starz when they were coaching at Hampton and he actually came to me and told me that he knows it was illegal to try and recruit at that time but he wanted to give me their sales pitch anyway.

Perspective on costs for what needs to be done

UVa donor ponied up $22M for their new stadium. It's going to take something like that to get the VT facilities to where they should be for such a good product. Luckily VT players so far have looked past the stadium and considered the school, the campus, the development, and the success of VT in their decisions but to take that next step you know it would help. Look at the records at UVa before and after the stadium opened. 18-33 2016 22-32 2017 12-41 2018 22-31 2019 10-12 2020 Covid year, first year Palmer Park was opened 15-33 2021 28-26 2022 30-22 2023 34-20 2024 first Regional berth in decades. Went 2-2 in TN Regional 38-19 2025 Regional berth 31-3 2026 current

UMBC softball cancelling season

Have a girl on our HS team that is supposed to be going there next year.

Agree on your points for sure

my daughter faced Pickens in Regionals 2 years ago and she said it's definitely mid to high 70's as they work on machines that throw mid-70's regularly and Pickens was "different" and the fastest thing she had ever seen!

Those Salem games should be at TSP - that would help

Also it seems that UVa regularly has matchups with George Mason, Liberty, Longwood, and JMU. Often home and homes. The only in state school regularly on VT's schedule is Radford. UVa did add a home game with ULL this year too. I think weather is a concern in Blacksburg and possibly location as there are not a lot of teams around.

Interesting as they also have 2 UVa ex-players

MC Eaton .370 4 HR .852 SLG Shelby Barbee .529 3 HR 1.118 SLG Now their schedule has been horrendous but they have done well with other ACC players it seems.

Came back later and then beat #9 Arkansas after that first game

While OSU and Maryland are not softball juggernauts they are solid wins. The rest of the schedule has been a little softer. I agree though with VTChip - definitely a solid team this year. Their best players are now seniors/juniors.
