Here's an excellent story on Bree Carrico.
Thomas, who is a VT student, is writing some really good softball articles. "Of Carrico's 18 appearances, she has limited opponents to one or fewer hits in 10. Carrico has rolled up a 3.04 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season. Though Carrico has acted almost exclusively as a reliever, that doesn't mean she can't go long. Seven of her appearances have gone for five frames or longer. In addition, she has shown stellar control, conceding only one wild pitch and six hit by pitches through the season's entirety."

You talked walk up songs. Well there was a reliever who used a certain
Song when he entered the game. Mariano Rivera of course. Maybe she could come in to the song he used. Made more popular in sports by a certain university in south west Virginia. It’s interesting he started using it in July of 1999. Virginia Tech in 2000. Very similar timing. Enter Sandman. ** Edited by GBOHokie at 3/24/2026, 9:01:12 AM

Good suggestion, but they tend to save Enter Sandman for max effect
For example, when Sunday’s game went into the bottom of the 7th, Enter Sandman was blasted and the place went crazy. And the Hokies ended up walking it off. 😀

That. I also like the Johnny Cash song pregame.

Here’s a great story about Angela Tincher, pitching in the super regionals
(I think) at Tennessee. At the end of a rain delay, Tenn played Enter Sandman, to their own demise. It’s a Roanoke Times subscription article and I don’t have a subscription (sorry)

I remember that. I think VT Sportscaster was in the TENN press box that day
I seemed to remember that he got blamed for it but he was totally innocent.

The Super Regional Tincher pitched in was at Michigan.
Beat them twice on Sunday to advance to WS.

Correct. The regionals were in Knoxville the previous week.

I think you're right - maybe won regional at Tenn to get to Super Regional

I’m with you. A story goes with the suggestion. My neighbor of
25 years is a NY transplant. A big Yankees fan. Back in the day we would have a “discussion” on who’s Enter Sandman was a bigger deal. His argument was, Rivera used it first, more Yankee fans than Hokies, it was played more often. Mine was 65,000 people go nuts when it was played. That broadcast teams set up to make sure it was shown. Well last May when Metallica played Lane he finally conceded. I sent him several videos from the show. Side note. He made the trek with me to several Hokie games. He loved it. The whole scene from tailgating to Sandman to the game. Still nice to say. I win! ** Edited by GBOHokie at 3/24/2026, 12:11:09 PM

Could use the "Jaws" theme for cinematic effect.
As long as it's not "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. I love that song, but it is played at virtually every Virginia Tech sporting event (and most sporting events I've been to, period.)
