they have to ensure they are guaranteed to stay close as possible to the P2. The P2 doesn't hold all the cards as they NEED the other 2 conferences to keep the $ as high as possible from a national sport. This is why VT and others outside do have leverage. And the P2 won't continue to separate as much as those believe it will forever in the future. The NFL designed it specifically with a salary cap and draft to do just that. Not the same for CFB, but do believe there will be movement in that direction to keep this all viable for both. Some P2 will still continue to be at the top because of what those schools are for a long time, but I do think there will be rule changes to keep everyone closer on even footing than the past 10 years or so have been because of different TV deals.

efficient supply chains have fundamentally reduced the ability to be protectionist and have any value at scale. 1 country can't change a global economy. It isn't possible to do what you did in the 1940s in the 2020s. Capitalism will flow like water to the lowest cost for highest return. That lower cost will never be in the US...at least as long as the standard of living in the US seeks to remain what it is, which I don't think anyone wants to reduce. Manufacturing isn't returning to the US. And it makes no sense for it to so long as consumers demand cheap products and producers seek to maintain and grow profit margins. Tariffs just make products cost more for consumers. Even if countries did try and move production within the US, they will be highly-automated in order to reduce the cost as much as possible. US wages are 10x+ wages in Vietnam. It makes zero sense to open a new factory that isn't 95% run by machines.

either/or, as evidenced by the FEF and other investments in athletics that will continue to increase. But is not anywhere close to THE thing that makes/breaks the university. I know everyone likes to think that leadership/BOV spend their days reading and worrying about athletics records, but that is so far from reality. They care, but there are so many other things that need their time and attention before athletics to be successful in their jobs. And when they don't, you end up flailing about and killing your real cash cow - the performance of the university as an institute of higher learning.

With an enrollment of 30K+ with trying to get to 50k, likely only a small % apply or make their choice based upon athletics. And would hope for the student's person they wouldn't. Athletics is absolutely a benefit, but it is part of marketing the university along with many other things - majors, quality of professors, campus life, climate, etc.

reasoned/research, the fact is also true that the certainty in which those predictions are made (and the constant echo chamber that is sports journalism) is on the whole just an effort to fill space/time during the offseason. I'd suggest reading for insight (which the good ones do a great job at) and leave the predictions and carnival barkers in any sports coverage (finebaum, mcafee, barstool, espn, sec network, fan sites, etc.) for the garbage

There just aren't enough people to generate talent consistently in that part of the state. They will pop up from time to time and of course we should go after them if they can play, but isn't about not wanting to recruit it just there aren't enough P5 talents produced there because there aren't enough people to produce them. Everything doesn't need to be a conspiracy.

Or those are ok because they meet your definition of advancing "warfighting"? Those were all problems caused by both leadership and individuals. While sympathies are mixed in certain portions of Ukraine, the impact of fighting for your homeland is impossible to accurately quantify.

NFL does a much better job keeping games from being 4+ hours. College needs to significantly reduce the halftime break at a minimum, if not some of the clock rules. And the commercial breaks....

It makes no sense to cut off a substantial portion of your audience by just playing yourselves (B10/SEC). They might play the best football, but nobody will care out side of those areas when the “shot” to win games and play for a national title (as slim as that chance really is) goes away. Today the audience is built in to the season because the chance is always there for them to be one of those that can make it in. Just win your games. This ends with 50-60 football schools breaking away from the NCAA. VT and UVA will be 2 of them and they will go together.
