Yeah, that's a bad one. NY also. DC.

I always liked Vermont's for some reason. And here in VA we have a crazy amount of (good) variety, IMHO

The Lounge 1 d ago

ugh.

I may draw open eyeballs on my eyelids, so I can sleep through our first week meetings.

Horses...horses...horses...

who doesn't love a little armpit hair on an album cover? I always smile when I think of Gilda, and Patti Smith makes me think of Gilda

Video makes me wonder... Are there any Fuller grandsons yet?

... I used to know Alonzo Tweedy's dad during this era. I never understood what 'Zo had done to get stuck in Bud's doghouse. Kid never played. But boy, did he ever come through on that last down. I wasn't at the game. I'll always remember where I was though. My HS reunion. I spent the first half of the reunion at the bar watching the game until it was over. And only then would I go make my speech. LOL The names on the roster... It's been a long while since we had that kind of talent on the field. DeChristopher. Wilson. Fuller. etc etc Here's to hoping for 2026 and on~! Go Hokies.

I wonder how young she was

my fav fro article: Lombardi has faced scrutiny on multiple occasions during his time in Chapel Hill, including his boast in February 2025 when he said the Tar Heels "consider ourselves the 33rd NFL team." He also made headlines last September when he informed the Patriots that their scouts would be banned from access to the Tar Heels' program. UNC went 4-8 last season under Belichick and did not have any players selected in this year's NFL draft.

Not a bad choice, yours. I can agree.

We anticipated that ...and shortly after began the long slide into horror.

Nope

Whether he reimburses me or not does not negate that this crime committed follows me and my car.

The difference is one is a fine for broken law, the other a fee for usage

Horrible incrementalism standard being set. "It's just a fine" doesn't cover the problem that it is voiding constitutional rights. ** Edited by Riverguy at 7/25/2026, 5:14:28 PM

Pogacar nailing down the Tour

looks like w/ wildfires, they're going to curtail the final stage from approx 80 to fitty miles.

The Lounge 1 w ago

I can't get myself to think they're constitutional.

If I lend my car to you, and you speed, I get the ticket. Cars don't speed, people do. At least w/ the cop backed up behind a billboard, there is human interaction.

My brother in law bought a farm from an old widow's estate.

When he & my sister moved in, there were something like 100 cats running around. The widow had fed cats This is how you get 100 cats Coach. Caaarrrrefullllll booosssss.... but then the coyotes moved through the area. They got down to 2 or 3 cats after that.

The username "Nutrition Bar" is sure to pop up soon

Will "Nutrition Bar" become Franklin's equivalent of the old Frank Beamer "..will really get after ya"? It seems he plugs the "Nutrition Bar" at every opportunity. Nutrition Bar!

Hah! Solid insight. I can see that

Tell you what. What you just laid out, I did not know. And it is insightful. I'm on my way to log up a subscription. :o)

I know VMI's TB pretty well.

He's a really good kid. In HS, he was good-not-great. But I liked his style; he was punishing any would be tacklers. He'll hit ya back. Leo Boehling. Any construction folks on here (I know there's a few) will recognize the last name. A bit like our Sam Rogers was, IMHO. Not as talented, but same mold.

Some of these surprise me.

Granted, I have done zero research on any of them. Is UVA really supposed to be that good again? Are they portaling super talent? Bellicheck seems to be claiming great back-ness. Top 4 no surprise. What the heck w/ Stanford? I pre-merger thought they'd compete on this coast.

Ah! The JV band!

LOL... j/k That's what my son used to call the MVs when he was an HT

My fave story re: Different categories of students return to VT early

My son was in the VTCC (HT, too). Out of HS, he went up two weeks early with all the other cadets. Others went early too. Athletes, foreign exchange students, etc. Well the first day, they are issued a Guidon (which is to be held three inches in front of the nose anytime left standing in line), get the buzz cut, get issued essentials, and get yelled at a lot. LOL. Hell weeks. We parents doing the drop off were ushered into an assembly and told under no uncertain terms that the best support of our new cadets was to encourage them to stick it out and endure the suck and that certainly there'd be many calling the parents saying "Mom, dad... I'm just not cut out for this. This sucks! I want to come home or drop out). About two weeks into the school year, a guy in my son's company went to commandant and said, "I'm in the wrong place. I don't belong here. This is all wrong" "Ah, stick it out. You'll be glad you did later! This is the hardest part and the rewards will make it all worth while~!" "You don't understand. This is all wrong. I don't belong here" Turns out, he didn't. His folder had somehow ended up in the wrong pile of "two weeks early" students. He never signed up for the corps. He was an exchange student from India. LOL. What was going through his mind, with the buzz cut and all the yelling? LOL. "this America thing isn't what I thought it'd be" I'm sure. The boy transferred out and integrated into foreign student life. ...with shorter hair and a better understanding of making a bunk.

asking for help from The Lounge braintrust. Dog doors

My son has 2 large dogs (German Shepherd and large mutt we call "Moose"). He is out in the country, and commutes to work (~45 minutes each way). A simple flap style dog door won't do. (?raccoons, burglars?). Does anyone have experience w/ a door mounted dog door? I'm thinking something w/ a security feature and dog collar that opens and closes when one or both dogs want out while he's at work. Anyone have good experiences? Bad experiences? thoughts to offer up? tia

Well, to a point I agree but

we've been around just as long as they have. We're both land grant schools. PSU is simply PA's VT and one could say VT is VA's PSU. We agree. They aren't dying. Paterno did a great job up there. Like Beamer, here. Only, JoPa did more of it, just a touch longer. Then the devil sent in Sandusky....and boom! what a cluster.

Sorry. Nobody but nobody has cheated like UNC

...not even Miami. Nor SMU UNC just did it without the cocaine gold chains opting instead for (sissy) light blue argyle and sockless penny loafers. Granted, Butch Davis (ex-Miami) helped, but all those basketball coaches were dirtier than roach poop

The Lounge 1 w ago

^^ very solid ^^

The movie was just okay, but it had everyone talking about the soundtrack for sure, and a mini-resurgence of classic R&R ensued.

The Lounge 2 w ago

I must be out of touch...

I would have assumed uniforms were issued as part of the cost of having a soldier. We don't make them pay for bullets, do we? Give 'em the uniforms.

The Lounge 2 w ago

To consider what they were working with in 1962...

...you're exactly right. Great filming. Production value was top notch, IMHO

The Lounge 2 w ago

hah. I watched the recently as well.

I think I'd seen it decades ago, but fell asleep. I got a kick out of it a few months ago. Good movie. You're right about some of the time-stamp elements. Hackman was great

The Lounge 2 w ago

State Farm did a study.

It cuts accident probability by something like 80% or so.
