asking for help from The Lounge braintrust. Dog doors
My son has 2 large dogs (German Shepherd and large mutt we call "Moose"). He is out in the country, and commutes to work (~45 minutes each way).
A simple flap style dog door won't do. (?raccoons, burglars?).
Does anyone have experience w/ a door mounted dog door? I'm thinking something w/ a security feature and dog collar that opens and closes when one or both dogs want out while he's at work.
Anyone have good experiences? Bad experiences? thoughts to offer up?

You say it's in the country, so I assume the dogs are free to roam or have
a fenced area. I would consider building a shed close to the house so you can get electricity. Put up whatever size suits your budget, and run an electric line into it for a small AC (less than $200). In the winter, you could use a space heater. Or you could put in a small PTAC that heats and cools. The dogs, regrettably, won't last forever. But if you build the shed right, it will, so you will have made a nice investment that also solves your dog problem.
