Unfortunately, if they are underrated then they may end up seeded to low to
make much noise in March. Seeding and match-ups make all the difference

Sure... there are a couple guys each year, but none of those are ranked
lower than 15. Point is that you make it significantly more difficult to reach the podium when ranked 15-20

All American status has even more representation from high seeds. Robles beat an unseeded wrestler in the semis the year he won
As don’t forget for many years they didn’t seed above 16.
Seeding doesn’t determine who gets AA status. Performance does. And guys pissed because their seed is bad may be more motivated to perform. I guarantee a few 1, 2, 3, and 4 seeds loose on day one. It happens every year. Because it’s about who is wrestling the best at the end of the year seed be damned.

Look at the all Americans each year and you’ll see almost every weight class with high seeds making AA. And even in the semis and finals. What was Lewis seeded when he won?

Mekhi got the 1 seed and was given the "gift" of seeing Carter much earlier than needed. Alirez is a guy who could throw a similar wrench into things at 141, Gable Steveson could end up behind Hendrickon as a 2 seed due to not wrestling much this year, etc.
Obviously you want the higher seed more often than not but it's a very imperfect science and sometimes being a slightly lower seed gives you the easier path

Penn State has a legit shot at National champions at 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, & 197 with 125, 133 & 285 being likely AA's with an outside shot at Natty's. They will have a lot of one seeds. I doubt they sweep, but they could surpass their previous high water mark of 5 champs this year...it's just a sick collection of talent. Not sure what Kasak's status is right now, but I am sure they are just being precautious before Big 10's after his injury.

Which is going to be a huge team score. Braedin Davis has looked off lately, and Lilledhal isn't a sure thing either as 125 is a mess. Other than that it's hard to find a guy who won't AA without a massive upset.

Mitchell is the only sure thing imo. I'll take Starocci, and go out on a limb with Barr. I think Henson, O'toole, and Mendez spoil some of their other title hopes.
I'm not sold at 125 and 133, and worried about Kasak's injury. He's a dude if he's healthy, but it's looking like it may be a recurring thing.
That said, I've keep being skeptical year after year, and Cael keeps proving me wrong.

will lose another match his college career (barring injury). He is unreal and his pace is unmatched. I believe the momentary (and uncharacteristic) brain freeze in last year’s Natl Championship Finals vs Carr, where Mitchell/his coaches thought it was tied vs him being down one point, will be his only collegiate loss.
Definitely never count out Starocci as he has proven 4 times. But, I believe someone can take him out. Keckeisen at the top of that list.

I'm not a huge fan of his but I can't argue with the way he's wrestling. Injury, burnout, and as others mentioned PJ Duke joining the mix are all variables that could get in his way though.
I also think Keckeisen could get Carter back if/when they meet again. PSU seems to prepare for the NWCA all star matches more than others and it was at PSU.

But I think it's worth pointing out how weak 165 is. Throw another O'Toole or Carr in there and I think he's beatable. I don't think there was anything flukey about Carr's win last year either. If anything, the stall calls that made it close were flukey.
