Pace gives Bo the edge. Don’t think he has a size advantage over Jax
I really think Bo has the smaller frame. He just has never really cut weight like Jax. In fact, I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see Bo stay at 141 after this coming year and Seidel jump to 149

Thank you for sharing!
Somehow I missed that story and it just reinforces the culture of the program and the kind of coaches and athletes in this wrestling program.
It also made me wonder about how that beautiful young girl has fared over the years. She has apparently been not without her struggles, but it looks like she has done amazingly well!

My completely uneducated guess…
Not injured, but the coaches didn’t see much value in wrestling Desanto again before wrestling Davino. Davino would’ve had a big advantage since he had fewer matches and would’ve been much better rested.
Perhaps the biggest factor may have been having to make weight again.

Not sure wrestling with Bo is similar to wrestling with Jax
Two completely different styles if you ask me. Bo may be able to give Aaron some tips as to what works for him against Jax though. Bo is a very smart wrestler and makes adjustments well when needed.

Older interview, but worth the listen.
As good as he is at wrestling, Bo is even better at speaking, sharing his faith, and motivating others. No doubt in my mind that the whole wrestling team is going to jump levels during his time at VT.
Listen to this entire interview

Really good take.
Besides, if he makes the Senior team, does he really want the 20U spot as well? Love to see Bo take the seniors and Seidel the 20U at 65kg

Pretty sure he is taller (and bigger) than Gabe Arnold…
There are guys that AA every year that are considered short for their weight.

Bo vs Jax
My money would be on Bo should they meet at 141 next year. I believe based on this photo, that Jax is a bit taller. For whatever reason, it seems like Jax has always wrestled 1 or 2 weight classes lower, but I’m sure they have knocked heads several times in the practice room. I’m guessing, with his relentless pressure and snaps, Bo is a bad matchup for Jax. The few times I’ve seen Bo lose it is because he was overpowered a bit. Jax won’t be able to do that and he may already know that. I’d be very surprised if they are at the same weight next year.

Kind of an up and down guy, but what about Edmond Ruth?
Could be someone to take a flyer on for a year if the coaches feel like he has his head on straight. Tremendous talent and very athletic.

On those proposed rule changes…
1. Call stalling on top and stop the riding time clock until start of a new period OR top wrestler scores an offensive point ... even in the ride outs.
Ehh… I don’t have a real problem with the top wrestling, but if you want to go that far, just eliminate riding time altogether as it used to be. I feel like it’s a mixed message to give a wrestler a point for riding his opponent and then tell him he can’t ride.
2. In neutral, if a wrestler has secured one leg and his opponent hasn't secured anything (e.g. body lock, whizzer, a leg, etc) as they go out of bounds, he is awarded 1 point.
Not a fan of this one. Gives the guy with the leg too much incentive to drive/drag his opponent out of bounds to get the point. What they DO need to do though is to create enough mat space beyond the outer circle to allow wrestlers to finish takedowns as the rules are written. There is no excuse, especially in NCAA’s, to have the defensive wrestler force a restart by having a portion of his body off the mat surface when the offensive wrestler is still in bounds.
3. Go back to technical falls only being 4 points if no back points are scored. It's too easy to get a TF now with the 3-point takedown. Help emphasize mat wrestling and award the guys willing to work to turn their opponents.
Not a fan of this either. It’s hard to turn a guy whose only job is to stay off his back. A 15+ win should be worth more than 8+ win. In order to emphasize mat wrestling, making a reversal the same as a takedown is a good start. There is no reason some getting taken down but then reverses his opponent should be losing.

I can see Duke jumping two weight classes and taking over for Haines at 174
He looks bigger than Messenbrink

Bo can snap and run corner with the best.
He doesn’t have to shoot on Vega to attack. Even if he doesn’t wear him down and get a takedown, I can see him earning stall calls and winning a tight match. He just needs to work on his bottom wrestling as I’m sure he is aware. He is not just out there being one dimensional and pushing the pace. He is one of the most cerebral wrestlers I’ve seen and is very good about making adjustments against wrestlers that give him problems and widening the gap the next go around

If you call moving forward pushing the action
Don’t understand McGowan backing up. Given how big he was, he could have held center much better. That said, I would have hit both for stalling at least the first time since neither took any risks.

First match where neither guy went after it
Haines wasn’t doing enough to earn that stall call. Refs decided that one, but Minto didn’t go after it

I actually like Caliendo.
Hard nosed, works hard, and definitely not a Brands guy. Hard to blame him for transferring for the money. Wrestling doesn’t offer a lot of options for that

I disagree. He did improve just not offensively against the top guys.
He lost to LL on a reattack (as many do). Seems to me he worked very hard on his defense and riding in the offseason and seemed to believe that would be enough. Now, seeing the success of offensive-minded guys like Seidel in the room, I fully expect to see a little different mindset next year.

The silver lining in a very tough loss for Eddie…
This will build a fire in him to create more offense in the offseason for next year much more than if he won this year. Since we have really been pointing to next year anyway, a loss this year will most likely be better for next year than a win. I fully believe it’s the losses that make the tough guys better and not many are tougher than Eddie

So Jax, really doesn't have any "quality top wrestler" wins...
I’m guessing they conveniently left out Jax’s tech fall over Ayala? The same guy that gave both Davino and Blaze all they wanted.
Jax earned the top seed, but the committee should’ve put his toughest competition in the other half of the bracket.

Regardless, the seeding committee should do their best to separate…
Davino and Blaze and as a result, Jax and Aaron.

I know the transitive property doesn’t necessarily apply in wrestling, but
I can see a case for Jax at #1 based on his TF of Ayala and the 2 close matches Blaze has had with him. Assuming Blaze beats Davino, I seed them Jax 1, Blaze 2, Seidel 3, Davino 4, Ayala or Byrd 5 depending on who places 3rd

Really like where we fall here.
Of those not seeded to make the final, all except Sasso need only flip close 1 point losses.

Bo did not bump up. He actually cur down for the post season.
Although I don’t think he is cutting much, if at all. He almost always looks smaller than his opponents.

Impressive! CA wrestling is stronger than ever.
Check out this 120 final. Zinkin is committed to OK St. Sanchez is a U17 World Champ

It just blows my mind some of the techniques available on social media now.
Sure wish we had this kind of stuff available back when I wrestled.

Cool message from a young man that literally has wrestling in his blood.
If you follow Virginia wresting even casually, you know the name Martin and likely Conkwright as well. The author of the message below is the progeny of two of the most well known wrestling families in Virginia. It could be he’s just not interested , but I’m really surprised he hasn’t been snapped up by college coaching staff somewhere yet because he has SO much to offer in terms of both technique and fitness training. I mean just look at him… how many former D1 wrestlers do you know that are in better shape at 40+ than they were in college?
The link below is just a sampling. Check out is Facebook page for more

After watching the replay, you are correct.
Still agree with Taylor’s call to put them on their feet since Merrill had not shown the ability to keep Sasso from standing up and his height made it difficult for Merrill to return him to the mat

I was fine with the second stall, but ideally the referee recognizes that…
he put Miller in a vulnerable position by calling it with Miller at the edge and immediately calls a stalemate to reset them in the center when he realizes what Robideau is doing, or calls Robideau for stalling for pushing Miller out of bounds
Wrestling Board
5 mo ago
The sequence in question was as follows…
Sasso out very briefly but Merrill immediately dove in on the legs. There could’ve been an escape awarded, but as soon as it wasn’t, there should’ve been a 5 count for dropping down below the waist. I believe that was what Robie was questioning and ultimately a stall was awarded. With the match tied, and no chance of getting riding time, OSU elected to cut Sasso and go for the TD rather than risk another stall call or a late escape. Very close at the end to being the right decision. I might have awarded the TD at the end and let the clock decide whether or not it came in time.
