In honor of Ty Walz returning
Along with all the great memories of his big wins and valiant effort in some losses (2016 semis vs Snyder), my favorite was him meeting Harper Potter, his biggest fan and the tearjerking surprise for her.
I think even Kyle Snyder commented how awesome that was.
Along with the talent, having that spirit will be a good fit for the program and incoming class. Along with the wins I hope to see more of those type of moments.

Harper Potter, best known for her heartwarming 2017 surprise meeting with her favorite Virginia Tech wrestler, Ty Walz, while undergoing cancer treatments, has grown up to be an accomplished student-athlete herself in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She graduated from Union High School, where she became a VHSL Class 2 State Champion in the shot put for indoor track. Her path included overcoming a major medical hurdle when she had to undergo emergency open-heart surgery. She remains a prominent Virginia Tech fan as the program continues to thrive, having most recently captured their second straight ACC Wrestling Championship in Cassell Coliseum. Competing at the University of Kentucky.

Somehow I missed that story and it just reinforces the culture of the program and the kind of coaches and athletes in this wrestling program.
It also made me wonder about how that beautiful young girl has fared over the years. She has apparently been not without her struggles, but it looks like she has done amazingly well!
