Along with all the great memories of his big wins and valiant effort in some losses (2016 semis vs Snyder), my favorite was him meeting Harper Potter, his biggest fan and the tearjerking surprise for her. I think even Kyle Snyder commented how awesome that was. Along with the talent, having that spirit will be a good fit for the program and incoming class. Along with the wins I hope to see more of those type of moments. Welcome (back) Home Ty Walz.

in Freestyle, although he was close to getting the last points for a tech fall, and Joey stepped over and caught him on his back. I was scratching my head when I saw the name again. It looks like he was trying to get into Iowa State but having to sue the NCAA for eligibility.

I get it that we should never take anything for granted and when a young wrestler places nothing is guaranteed the following years. We could also look at the blood round opponent he beat, Chris Foca who finished 3rd last year, Taylor Venz of Nebraska, and the list goes on - as they say that's why they wrestle the matches. He's got the right attitude and approach, and I think he hit his stride only in the last two-three months of the season (going back the past 2 seasons). If he has settled into 184 as his weight, that could help a lot too. Hopefully him and Sonny Sasso make good workout partners and a nice one-two for years to come.

in the earlier matches he kept Henson, and pretty much everyone else down w/o giving up an escape, and Henson would normally choose bottom again almost anyone else. Keep in mind Lovett was 15 seconds away from getting the riding time point which would have tied it. I understand Lovett's choice and Henson had to earn it, which makes the win that much more special.

It seems like getting more matches at the GMU open will be good learning experience and help him be the better wrestler going into the post season. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.
