SB America comment on the game and hosting
This was written by Brady Vernon, who is the Managing Editor of Softball America and their primary bracketologist. "Virginia Tech will likely find itself as a two-seed in the 17-20 bucket traveling to one of the 13-16 seeds. Florida State is locked into a hosting spot, how high will be the question? Can they sneak into a Top Eight seed? We will find out on Sunday." In their Bracketology on Saturday morning, their 13-16 seeds looked like this: Oklahoma State (13) Texas A&M (14) LSU (15) Oregon (16) ** Edited by VTChip at 5/9/2026, 8:42:47 PM

USA Today hosts
USA Today released their Regional hosts predictions at 8:24 Saturday night. I am not familiar with Austin Curtright, who made the projections. His bio says he's a recent Oklahoma graduate. 1. Texas (42-10) 2. Alabama (49-6) 3. Oklahoma (48-8) 4. Nebraska (46-6) 5. Arkansas (42-11) 6. Florida (48-10) 7. Tennessee (42-10) 8. UCLA (47-8) 9. Texas Tech (52-6) 10. Florida State (49-8) 11. Georgia (38-18) 12. Duke (39-14) 13. LSU (37-17) 14. Oklahoma State (38-15) 15. Oregon (40-12) 16. Texas A&M (36-17)

Spent three years as a faculty member in Aggieland. In fact, I saw my . .
. . . first women's fast pitch game there in 1984. It's a unique place and was a great experience. Haven't been back since our football game there is 2002? I recommend the trip for those who can make it if that's where we are placed.

VT has a better record than 9/16, & is 4-3 (3-2 on the road) vs. the group.

Me, too, but the Michigan State loss just killed us
Michigan State ended up totally tanking - this morning, they had an RPI of 151. That's a BAD loss.

That was the flu bug weekend, correct?
I know that it ripped through the team pretty good with several playing while still under the weather.

Yes. In Charlotte. Mainly affected Layton, Grizzard, and Carrico.. limited
our pitching for the most part.

Somebody develop a system that isn't affected by how other teams
do more than a month after you played them.

How do you know how good anyone is after the first 5-10 games of the season
Base it on preseason rankings? And doing this also means that we would not benefit from any team who got better as the season went on. ** Edited by nkhooch at 5/10/2026, 4:38:25 AM

Agreed. It should be what they were thought of at the time you played
them.

We were also missing players with the flu, but it's a loss
And it keeps us from having a "clean sheet" in the 150+ category. The Selection Committee Chair recently said they were looking for clean sheets.

Then they should be looking in WalMart, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond or
Amazon.

I'd bet the committee would disregard the "clean sheet" requirement ...
... if a desired SEC team had a "dirty" clean sheet.
