not gotten more consideration from the P2 than they had before. VT needs a diamond in the rough, not a splash hire. If it's headlines you want, give Vick a shot. Could he get the players to commit? Could he attract the coordinators, GM, assistants, and players that can take VT back to the level it wants?
Looking at the coaching carousal, and the amounts of money being thrown around, I'm not convinced that the marquee splash hires are worth the money.

ND fans were not unhappy when Brian Kelly left.
He had been there for twelve years, had done pretty well, but had lost the big games.
It was time for him to go, no hard feelings. ND fans were grateful for his efforts to restore ND, but his abrasive personality and lack of big game results meant that no one was sorry to see him move on.
But afterward (and for over two years), he ran his mouth. He talked about how he was finally at a place that would not restrict his genius, had the recruiting, the facilities, everything he needed to win national championships.
Finally, he was at a place without academic and other restrictions, where his coaching would shine and not be held back.
Well, "Big Game Brian", how did all of that turn out?
Perhaps the "problem" was himself all along and not ND?
That smile will stay a while.........

he was there, more supportive. I could easily understand both points of views. If Kelly wants to stay in Coaching now, I could see Virginia Tech making a run. We just had the really nice guy in Pry, so I could see us doing the opposite. Three things, he would have to learn a Blue Ridge mountain accent 🤣 (not really Northern Virginia has the most students and alums, at Virginia Tech and it’s so blended it’s really neutral), second, learn to either nod, waive and or speak to people you go by whether you know them or not (Fuente never got that) and it seriously hurt him in a small college town. Third bring some LSU players with him!!

I had felt that he, and ND, were not getting enough credit nationally for that five year run.
Like I said, no hard feelings when he left. He had been there for twelve years (going 113-40 overall) and it was time to move on.
Then, he ran his mouth incessantly. So, he had zero goodwill from ND people after that. He burnt all bridges. I doubt that he will be warmly welcomed back to campus, ever.
I had thought since Saturday night that Virginia Tech may be his next job.
He is a good program builder and a good CEO coach. He needs good coordinators and good recuiters on staff (he was a lazy recruiter, both at ND and at LSU).
He has been a consistent 9-10 game winning coach throughout his career. He might be Tech's best prospect in this crazy coaching search year.

He is 19-4 in his last two seasons ('24 &'25, to date) and 29-7 in his last three years. (38-12, overall in four years)
That includes three playoff wins and a run to the national title game.
No only that, but his recruiting efforts are damn good and he is the most likable coach in college football.
He has embraced ND, with all that means. In return, all of ND has completely embraced him as well.

The natural shelf life for a successful ND coach seems to be about 10-12 years so lock him down. I could see him looking at the NFL after a decade or so in South Bend.

As a coach. The Notre Dame fan base screamed about this, but everybody just kept throwing up that we just aren’t a good enough school to win at. The fact is is he his own worst enemy and he’s lazy when it comes to recruitin. He lays eggs in the biggest games.
I’m not weeping for him, because this was always gonna happen and the way it was gonna end. LSU is the top three job in the country.

The P2 was successful in consolidating most of the big brand schools. But the problem was obvious in that some of them would now be getting a lot more losses than they were used to in the past. They were all just delusional enough to think it would not be them.
Welcome to the new reality P2 schools. The days of only 1-2 loss seasons are in the past for many of you. And you better actually be able to coach, because it’s too expensive to win on just talent like the past.

PS I hope South Carolina holds onto Shane, being in his Dad’s shadow during losses will be intolerable for him and his family. That includes Dad!

a couple of small businesses and I talk to other small businesses and it’s rough out there, people are cutting back like crazy. However, the Big Donors will keep giving until if and when Wall Street feels it. 🤔 Big Donors have taken over TV Media money for running college football. In our own Conference SMU made the playoff last year through donor money, and UVA has a chance this year. UVA already has another contribution for next year. Oh and Stanford more than doubled what UVA did for this year, for next year.

WS has been disconnected for awhile now. But there is now a reality that will hit hard if nothing changes in the next two months.
If the government shutdown continues into December (which I think is a very real possibility) then we will see two things happen.
1. Airline travel will drop noticeably
2. Holiday shopping will drop
Either one of those is bad. If both happen and gov stays shutdown then I think WS finally takes a hit no later than January. The reason is that they are not some abstract potential like AI. This is tangible and immediate economic impacts to companies and communities. If it happens.
And yes the college sports spending looks incredibly stupid next to those potential real world scenarios.
