Phillips, Yormak and other commissioners
need to get on the bat phone to figure out a way to counteract the coming “there shouldn’t be auto bids for conference champs in the playoff,” cause that’s coming.

I expect only top 2 champs will get byes. Most of times it will be the SEC champ ane B10 champ. This is another reason why I think they will expand the CFP to 14.

But on life support. They need schools all over the U.S. to participate, but only well enough to get thumped in the playoff. The networks can’t simply write off large swaths of the country, so schools like Utah, Boise State, and VT need to technically have a shot so that all of those regional fans watch college football.
The P2 can’t swallow up everybody, so I think they’ll be free with playoff bids until they elevate their programs to a new division.

I think interest in B1G/SEC goes down if they formally separate somehow. I certainly can't see how it goes up.
They're killing it as things are. Not sure why they'd be motivated to alter the current model.

What happens when those bowl games. get less and less attended? And some are run byESPN. How about that Duke versus Ole Miss game? ACC is headed for collapse.

If the P2 truly seceded as currently comprised to a NFL type super league, you would IMO definitely lose meaningful viewership in some relatively large swaths of the country. Which of course helps line the pockets of the P2.
What better then predictable fodder as the current model (which they will adjust the seeding) - and should a non P2/ND once and blue moon break through- all the easier to perpetuate the current scam .
If the odds of you winning the lottery are absolute zero, then you never buy a ticket. However so long it is whatever comes after zero, people will buy tickets by the tens of millions.

The ACC and B12 are not going to get more money if one of their teams wins the playoff to be the national champion. Only that one team will see some benefit financially. The conference will get a bit of a reputation bump, but it will be short lived and will not increase the money.
My fear is that the ACC and B12 focus too much on chasing the playoffs and water down their schedules to try and create more 10 win teams. And if that happens, then the conference actually looks weaker and has fewer interesting games. The main money comes from the regular season and the championship game weekend.
If the auto bids go away, it could actually be a good thing if the ACC and B12 approach it creatively.

It requires some uncomfortable truths in order to succeed. If the ACC B12 PAC cannot accept these, then they will never succeed, no matter how creative they get.
Some brands are not as valuable and never will be for football. This could be due to size of school, location, or fan support. Wake and BC for example.
Big brands are more valuable even when their teams are not as good. FSU and VT (my bias) for example.
Regular season games are more important than the playoffs. The regular season is what gets the media contracts and generates value. Scheduling should be hard and interesting to get that value. It should not be easy and trying to get inflated teams with weak and boring schedules (the old model).

if those games are to remain, they need an incentive for top teams to play them...a bye, home field...something
too much $ made in those games to cancel them outright

the SEC and Big 10 will get most, if not all of the games in their stadiums. It's too much money to ignore in ticket sales, the community, and the taxes generated.
