Our TV ratings are lower than what we would all expect
Part of that is due to crappy time/channel slots. But this report is still horribly inaccurate.

Sobering not the term I’d use.
According to that, the ACC is as strong as the SEC or B1G, taking into account total number of teams over 1M fans. And GT, BC have more or equal fans than Clemson? Right…. Inaccurate is the word I’d use. Or just plain silly might work. Or waste of time. ** Edited by hokieZ71 at 7/31/2022, 2:52:35 PM

I don't think the author of that article was sober.

That is very Intersting
Just based on one year has a lot of relevance. Teams as FSU, Miami, Arkansas & Tennessee have had a lot of bad seasons for nearly the last decade. Arkansas was horrible with the worst historical statistical football in their entire history. Ranking at the very last spot in Division One Standings at 134 & 135 in several important stats. That was with Bret Bielema. The Hogs got worse with Chad Morris. Morris had to be the worst hire in D 1 over the last decade. Had to fire that Ohio bred AD. Better last year with Pittman, his pay went up to 6 Million a year. Just stunned to see Arkansas even on that list. I think Virginia Tech would have been on the list when Frank Beamer was the coach. The Hokies just need to get better fast. It can be done with a magnum coaching hire. Though it will cost. ** Edited by WarHog38 at 7/31/2022, 2:09:22 PM

This entire list is a joke.

U walk 5 min. from GT campus you'll find more Clemson "fans." Rubbish
What I do appreciate is the realization that Bball fans count too. There are a bunch of Duke and UNC fans out there. And with the former, there's a lot of Duke anti-fans too, which is OK because that puts butts in seats and brings eyes to the TV.

The fans of UGA rule the ATL area.
Been to the last two VT-GT games at GT and 15-20% of the stadium were VT fans. They seldom fill their rather small stadium anyway. Then look at Athens where UGA routinely fills 90K plus crowd. I lived there for the last 37 years and never really got the GT controls the ATL market thing. That is UGA by far. ** Edited by SemperFiHokie at 8/1/2022, 1:02:55 AM

A conservative guess is that UGA has 20X more fans than GT
So if UGA has 2M fans, that would put GT around 100K. That sounds about right.

Need only to see Kansas #’s to see this is BB tilted.

That is garbage. You can't tell me BC has a bigger following than VT. I
question others too.

Yep. ZERO chance.

No methodology available. No definition of “fan”.

Clearly this is football and basketball since Duke is #2 in ACC
And what is frustrating is that so much of that depends on access to games and marketing around those games. I still remember (maybe two years ago) both VT and UVA were top 25 in basketball and our game was not on tv. It’s no wonder some schools get better numbers when that crap happens. But BC and GT surprised me the most and makes me suspicious of the data. I’d be very curious to see the source of these numbers.

"no explanation of the methodology used is available"
probably wise to ignore this data

Wow ! No explanation necessary.
"The calculation was based on fans that watched or attended a game in 2021. The data shows 103 million people were fans of the 65 teams in 2021. Ohio State had the largest count at almost 6.3 million. Alabama was second at over 4.1 million. Thirty-one more Power Five programs (including Notre Dame) exceeded one million fans." These devoted data analysts obviously conducted personal interviews of all 103 million respondents in order to determine which of them were Boomers vs GenX, etc.

Yep, BC brings tons of fans to road & bowl games. ;)

Media manipulation is a HUGE problem
Our value is dependent upon viewership, which is largely decided by the media's program scheduling.

Got to throw out the BS flag on that article
Who's writing this crap? ACC – FSU, 2.7M; Duke, 2.6M; UNC, 1.9M; Boston College, 1.5M; Georgia Tech, 1.4M; Clemson, 1.5M and Miami 1.1M I can believe F$U, and Clemson looks a little low, but there's no freaking way Dook, UNC, BC, and GT have more fans than VT. No freaking way! No one gives a crap about their football programs. Miami gets the internet punks who think they live Miami swagger, but they don't buy tickets. Now if they're talking basketball programs, then I can see UNC and Dook getting the ratings. Football? No freaking way!!!!!

Got to throw out the BS flag on the poster as well.
