I would argue that most coaches aren't consistently better than their talent. If they can develop that talent into better players, maybe that means the evaluation was at fault, not the player. FWIW.

Plus, losing their starting quarterback, which is the most important position on the team, and looking anemic in their last 2 games rated them dropping in the rankings. Where the committee screwed up was leaving them at 5. They should have dropped to around 9-10. I think the committee was throwing them a bone and giving them a good bowl as a consolation prize which I don't think they rated.

My father and I drove from Camp Lejeune, NC to Winston Salem for this game. I believe it was a night game, or at least a late afternoon. We got back home about 3:00 AM to find a note on the front door...Come to the Hospital. My pregnant wife's water had burst and she had to drive herself to the Naval Regional Medical Facility on Camp Lejeune. We felt safe going to the game because she was still 3 weeks away from her due date. I rushed in and told the Corpsman who I was and I was supposed to be with her to deliver. He told me to "Have a seat Sir". A few minutes later a nurse came out and told me I had a healthy daughter born early AM on 5 September 1976. An oddity we still remember is the only thing it cost me was for my wife's meals since I was an officer. As I remember it was about $11.00. My second daughter was born in the same hospital on 1 October 1982 on the examination table in the emergency room. After that we decided no more.

What idiot coach would start the two minute drill to win the game with a second string quarterback who had not even been in the game yet with your starting quarterback standing there perfectly healthy, and who had probably been practicing the required drill the game called for. Against the 5 ACC games they are obligated to play. And they play Stanford every year anyway. This is so stupid it sounds like something the ACC would do.

Since ESPN owns the GOR would they financially benefit from trying to break up the league. They already have financial issues. If they could partner with another network and split up the ACC into pieces advantageous to them to get what they want to the SEC and another batch to the B1G and/or B12, would they do it. Just think of the back room deals that would go on to get that done.

We've got late games of our own. The B1G, SEC and ACC big games of the week don't start until 7:30 or 8:00. So we're already up to 11:00-12:00 PM to see our own games. There is just not that much appealing about the west coast to keep me up to 1:00-2:00 in the morning to watch it. They're treading water at best now.

Disney isn't sure what they are going to do with ESPN and with the cable subscription vs streaming business model uncertainty. They may not have the money to pay conferences a bigger pay day to add more schools. And with others coming into the live sports and college football arena, business as usual isn't anymore. ESPN is looking at being it's own streaming channel, but Disney is trying to figure out how much to charge for it. They are losing the cable subscriptions where people were subsidizing ESPN even though they didn't watch it.

I keep seeing occasionally someone pitching we need to merge with the PAC 10. This makes no kind of sense to me. Why would we want to join a conference that is 2500 miles away; the big 10 took the best 2 teams; if they expand again they may go back for the remaining 2 best teams. Someone help me out here. I just can't see it.

I'm not set up for OTA so Hulu works for me. Although here in SC, if it is regional we might get something else. I used to get all VT games when I lived in ATL. I got spoiled.

With the growth of streaming and the loss of customers being faced by cable/satellite ESPN may have to come up with a new model to replace lost revenue. A lot of the cable/satellite customers that have been subsidizing them in a hostage system are not live sports fans. And they are not choosing to fork over the large sums for TV coverage that includes expensive items they don't want. Disney has a lot of things to work out to make streaming pay for them.

But Shane has several built in advantages. SEC, heck of a lot better recruiting area, and Frank looking over his shoulder in case he screws up. I like what Pry's doing, but he's got to win some games to keep the wolves at bay. If CFB started in this era and had the same record he had, he'd never make it to year 4. Let's give Pry some slack and see what he can do.

It had to be a big jump from only having to deal with one side of the game, defense at PSU, to now being the big whistle. He faced the contract issues, hiring a new staff, dealing with new players and their issues, admin issues out the wazoo. His head had to be spinning. As in any new job, and being the head coach was a new job, there's a transition. And in a new place with all the distractions like moving family, smoozing alumni with either big checkbooks or big mouths. And then the cupboard was really thin of players. He seems to be such a great cultural fit I can only hope his coaching matches that. So I'll give him some slack and support for a couple more years and hope to see an upward trend.

Clemson within 2-2.5 hrs from Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia. Much richer recruiting area. Blacksburg is 2 hrs from nowhere. I loved it but not for everyone.

I live in SC so pretty close to ATL and he normally asks me to go with to him to the TECH/TECH game. One of leaves happy normally. They're ready for a change.

I stream now and have Hulu +Live, Prime and Netflix. Hulu +Live has ACC Network, but not ACCN. But I didn't try to get it on Computer either. Might be able to there. I am pretty satisfied and don't feel like I am missing much.

Just make it an ACC-SEC basketball series. Problem solved.

Our family barely scrapped by and they were farmers and sent sons to fight for the CSA. Most of the poor white southerners could care less about the rich slave owners, and we shouldn't forget some of those rich slave owners were black. That is not noised around much. We all have valid history to be proud of and some we wish could have gone a different way. But the southern history is the part that seems to be getting destroyed these days , while the other sides sometimes egregious acts are overlooked. I personally would rather see us all work towards the betterment of the livestyles of all of us at present. And especially the Hokies. No matter their persuasion, we pull for them all and hopefully support them for a better overall result. But support them win or lose.

Been to the last two VT-GT games at GT and 15-20% of the stadium were VT fans. They seldom fill their rather small stadium anyway. Then look at Athens where UGA routinely fills 90K plus crowd.
