Let’s say a couple of years from now VT wins a Natty, but not 1 starter is
An original VT signee. It’s just not my old school college football anymore. I accept that, but it just doesn’t feel right. I’d be surprised if jersey sales even sell anymore. Name might just on the back one year. I’ll watch and root, but i’m not invested anymore. Sorry, hope VT gets a lot of wins from Franklin, but I can’t bring myself to go deep in caring for players that transfer here from another school. Especially for a year or 2 tops. If VT wasn’t your go to school to begin with I don’t have much in common with you. VT was my only love coming out of HS. Feels mercenary. Just my rant.

the Trophy Case 2.0 and Hokie fans will still take pride in seeing the banner proudly displayed in Lane Stadium sponsored by Smithfield Foods, Jiffy Lube, General Dynamics, Napa Auto Parts, and PepsiCo.

His portal class was heavily r-freshmen. If we can retain most of these we'll have more continuity than many teams.

I was fooled a bit at first, and it felt like, hey, we're pulling up to the big boys table. 3 months later, it's getting crowded in here. Everybody is dropping big $.

historically followed the entire roster, know the guys from when they signed, have a general idea where the freshman are from, maybe even knowing their high school. I think the average fan knows some starters that get the ball and maybe a few defenders that make a lot of tackles and get an interception here or there. I think this only really impacts the fanatics. Luckily I stopped following recruiting and stopped tracking the 2 deep and beyond somewhere soon after the Logan Thomas era I'd guess.
I root for the jersey. It is what it is. Hell, now if there is a player that starts and ends his career at VT, we should really love him, almost more than any player we've ever loved!

Might as well go with the flow.
I’ll take a championship even if the players don’t know how to get to class or the name of the admin building.

Which means it can be good as long as VT doesn't retire the number.

It's the landscape of college football these days. Or any other sport for that matter.

...you'll find that you really don't miss it as much as you might think. I've discovered that my fall Saturdays are just as enjoyable doing other things.

The academic admission standards were much lower back then. Fight, fight, fight SVCC!!!! Not sure if we even had a athletic team or team name.

And it’s going to be this way going forward as long as the “rules” essentially remain the same, particularly in the revenue sports.

Agree it's hard to get to know the players and root for them.
