That one year was his best and as others have noted, he will have a losing record in 2 of the past 3 years. Why would you want any coach with that kind of resume (no matter what their last name was)?
And last year when he won 9 games, SC only averaged 17 ppg on offense. Is that the kind of boring football you want at VT?

You cannot be guaranteed a winning season every year in that conference unless you’re Alabama.
The way you talk, you would bail on a team with a losing record. Grow up and learn how to take losses like a man.

I'm providing factual evidence of why Shane Beamer's resume has weaknesses that should prevent him from seriously being considered in any final list of candidates by VT.

would do well at South Carolina?
Schedule this year
#10 Vandy
#15 Missouri
#20 LSU
#13 Oklahoma
#4 Alabama
#8 Ole Miss
#3 A&M
OOC
VT
SC State
Coastal Carolina
Clemson
How many would Franklin win? He has 4-17 top 10 wins in his career. Shane has 3 already. How many would Manny Diaz win? Dan Mullen imo is the strongest candidate on my list based on his MSU days. I have Franklin and Mullen above Shane.

Did you know that the SC football budget is equivalent to #3 in the ACC or #3 in the B12. They have plenty of money to buy top players and coaches.
You can speculate all day and say that others would not do as well as SB, but that's all it is, speculation. The reality is that SC is not a hard place to win in the current world. Just look at Vanderbilt for evidence. All you need to do is smartly apply the vast SEC resources and a top team can be quickly assembled. SB is old school and conservative and not some magical football whisperer at SC.

Candidates could come from anywhere. I don't care where they come from as long as they have solid credentials, a solid plan, and hire great coordinators (not first timers who learn on the job).

He's an average coach at a middling program. His coordinator hires have continually been less than inspiring, and he has stuck with failing coordinators when he shouldn't have (sound familiar?) His offenses, in an era where offense is everything in college football, have been meh at best. He could very well be fired at USCe if they lose out, which is a distinct possibility.
If his name was Shane Smith, and he had the exact same resume, overall record, and trajectory this year, there is no way that he would be considered for this job. VT, as does any program that is not dealing with a high-level P2 budget, needs a very strong schematic coach and one with an excellent record of doing more with less and developing talent. Shane ain't that.

on and away from Beamerball. We must get out of this bubble to move forward.

We want to win. We need a young coach with energy who recruits well and puts together a strong staff.

sure sounds like a good idea to me. Listen he wouldn't be at the top of my list, but Franklin probably doesn't end up here. We don't know how far down our list we will end up before we actually make a hire. Dismissing someone with Shane's experience this early is foolishness.

Just look at their records in comparison. How in the world are you thinking Shane is a good comparison vs Spurrier?
Shane is the first chart below.
Spurrier is the second chart below.

point is that Shane has had success somewhere few others have in the P2
(In response to this post by vivitron73)

Not even worth making that comparison. Spurrier also ran of 3 11-2 seasons in a row at USC when expectations were high on him. Shane is tanking with team that was thought to be playoff worthy. So His resume is thin and he’s choking when the expectations got higher. Throw in the GUARANTEE John Ballien’s influence lingering and I’m a hard no.
Final thought: do you think for 1 second he’d consider the VT job if he was meeting expectations at USC? That answer is an easy no, not a chance. That alone disqualifies him from consideration.

I am saying Shane has done very well at SC in his first 5 seasons in comparison. We haven't been good in 1.5 decades why would Shane consider VT over South Carolina if he was doing well? Why would anyone?

Rebuilding and winning at progressively larger programs. He didn’t move up because of his last name and someone is going to hire him in the P4 either this year or next. Only 2 candidates I can see before him are Dan Mullen and James Franklin, and I don’t think Franklin wants anything to do with VT or he’d already be here (he’ll go to Stanford). Mullen is far more gettable but I think Okie St will make a hard press for him too. Cheney is #3 on that list and his resume is vastly superior to Shane. He had one notable year and is now at risk of having a 3 win season when he was thought to have a playoff team. Don’t give me “well that’s the SEC”. Nope, those expectations were there knowing he’s coaching in the SEC. He’s a struggling coach who got a job he’s in over his head on because of his last name. It would be a worse hire than Pry.

It means VT is in a position where it has to settle for a Shane because he’s looking for an escape or out of the unemployment line.

goes to PSU. Nebraska then will hire someone which may open someone else. I would think LSU and FSU wouldn't pay their buyouts, but those could also potentially open up. This cycle is brutal.

Quite a bit easier to win Natty at Florida than at USCe . Not apples to oranges
