Ok now look at James Franklins, Bob Chesney's, Shane Beamers, Dan Mullen's
resumes and tell me that he is more qualified with 1 interim season here(he was just hired as a coordinator(in February) this season so he didn't have much involvement in bringing in a ton of the pieces).

Yes, he needs to prove himself on the recruiting trail and show that he can
do all the aspects that it will take to get VT back in the picture. Being an interim coach in one season doesn't make him more qualified than the other candidates being discussed in my honest opinion. I love the guy and hope he finds another job or even we make room for him on the new staff, but he should not be the permanent head coach.

Not in the top 5. There is more to running a program than on field. Needs
to be able to recruit at a high level as well. You can put him on the list, but I think he needs to go prove himself somewhere before you give him a P4 HC job. In season interim with a team you didn't recruit isn't the same as 2-4 years somewhere with a team you recruited/evaluated/developed.

Thats my point you are eliminating him from the list when this is a brutal
coaching cycle. Brian Kelly may be next and LSU pushes us further down the list. They take someone and that may push us down the list.
VT fans don't understand that we may not be able to pick from the cream of the crop. I want the best available because I want Virginia Tech to be as successful as possible.
Ive been hearing no silverfield because Fuente coached at Memphis, no Franklin because he was fired, no Mullen because Florida fired him. Summral probably goes to Auburn. Rhule probably goes to PSU and then Nebraska is open. Shane is not on my list because his last name is Beamer. He has P2 quality wins at one of the toughest places to coach at in the SEC. Mullen had MSU #1 at one point and got fired at Florida. Franklin kills recruiting in our territory.
My logic is that you make a list and go down the list. VT potentially could end up further and further down our list.

We have been 62-59 since Beamer. I don't think the problem is Beamer.

Hard to tell. Kiffin may open Ole Miss, UNC could open, Nebraska if Rhule
goes to PSU. Nebraska then will hire someone which may open someone else. I would think LSU and FSU wouldn't pay their buyouts, but those could also potentially open up. This cycle is brutal.

No one is saying Shane is better than Spurrier. That is foolishness.
I am saying Shane has done very well at SC in his first 5 seasons in comparison. We haven't been good in 1.5 decades why would Shane consider VT over South Carolina if he was doing well? Why would anyone?

Let me ask you a question. How many coaches in college football today
would do well at South Carolina?
Schedule this year
#10 Vandy
#15 Missouri
#20 LSU
#13 Oklahoma
#4 Alabama
#8 Ole Miss
#3 A&M
OOC
VT
SC State
Coastal Carolina
Clemson
How many would Franklin win? He has 4-17 top 10 wins in his career. Shane has 3 already. How many would Manny Diaz win? Dan Mullen imo is the strongest candidate on my list based on his MSU days. I have Franklin and Mullen above Shane.

I will say on a 5 year trajectory Spurrier will end up with more, but the
point is that Shane has had success somewhere few others have in the P2

More wins than Spurrier at SC, top 10 wins, and 1 of the few P2 candidates
sure sounds like a good idea to me. Listen he wouldn't be at the top of my list, but Franklin probably doesn't end up here. We don't know how far down our list we will end up before we actually make a hire. Dismissing someone with Shane's experience this early is foolishness.

They are saying no to Franklin above and Shane here. All of these jobs
open up and we are going to wish one of these guys were an option.

I think there is some truth to what you are saying, but I would also say
that you should always leave room for constructive criticism. The only way that you get better is by identifying things that aren't going well for you and taking action on making those things better. I wouldn't support someone attacking an individual wrestler or coach with insults or anything of the sort. Any great coach would agree with what I just said including Robie. I don't doubt there are repeat offenders that do cross a line they shouldn't as a fan, but every single fan base has those types of people. The family culture Robie and Frayer have established is something we can all be thankful for and a message board should be open for SENSIBLE discussion whether it be positive or negative criticism.

I never said Robie wasn't a good coach. Even Robie would agree that
retrospective is needed for improvement. You need a feedback loop to get better. Your iron sharpens iron effect proves my point it doesn't negate it.

I would wager that PSU has a better chance in the future of winning
all 10 weights at NCAAs than we do at winning a team title.

It's a grind and that is bound to happen some. I am very thankful of how
good of a program we are blessed with currently. That being said you are either getting better or worse. You have to go out and try to impose your will on the other guy all throughout your career so that when you arrive at your SR year you have figured out just about every single way to score on the other guy(neutral, top, bottom)
Defensive counter wrestling is great for keeping things close and we have kids that have had and will have great careers with that type of style, but you have to be able to score now especially with 3 point takedowns. We shouldn't be choosing down against opponents that are known to be great in those positions, especially when they have eaten us alive in that same position in the past.
It is still early and I am fighting every urge I have emotionally to not be super negative because I'm super passionate about this program. We still have a great team and program and need to work more on scoring off our own takedowns and less off of counters. I also think that will pay dividends at the end of the year in terms of conditioning in March.
All of that being said this is an emotional rant and Robie and Frayer are much better coaches than I would ever be. This is just my couch potato perspective so take it with a grain of salt.

Hate to say it but that is what happens when you have
Cael Sanderson, Kyle Snyder, Kyle Dake, David Taylor, etc..... and we have Jared Haught and Robie. It's just not comparable in terms of what level of coaching/talent to work with they have right now and this isn't a shot at Haught/Robie it's just an honest assessment of where they are as a professional organization vs. where we are at.
