Per athlon sports, Jon Gruden floated as
possible next VT Head Coach if Pry doesn't perform well this year. Not sure what to think of that!

short memories on this board, racist emails is why he's no longer coaching
It would be disturbing to have him represent VT in any way, shape or form..sheesh

Curious do u forgive people that are sorry 4 what they did like Mike Vick?
You obviously have a a right to do that if you want to, but I find it fascinating when friends of mine that follow a religion based on forgiveness, per their leader, but can’t forgive people that are really sorry for what they did. Now if they aren’t sorry for it, that’s a different case, but do you have facts showing he isn’t sorry for what he did? I have no idea, I haven’t followed him since this happened at all, to be truthful. PS I am just trying to understand your point of view here, I don’t know you, and I am not trying to change your mindset on this, just understand it better.

well, like most people, I try to forgive people, sure, but my post wasn't about forgiveness at all, but rather that I would never want someone like Gruen representing VT. Who in the world would have to forgive him anyway? VT's President, VT's admin, VT's coaches, all VT alumni, all VT football players past and present, everyone who ever has had anything to do with VT?...etc. It's not about who would forgive him. I love VT and I just don't care for him to represent VT. Gruden was a grown man when he wrote those emails; therefore, I believe he demonstrated that he's racist and homophobic. Half of our country forgives a prominent racist every day so I don't think anyone should be calling me a hypocrite or someone lacking forgiveness, just like I most likely wouldn't call them someone that. As far as I'm aware, Gruden hasn't changed who he is - unlike Mike Vick. All Gruden's done is sue the NFL and try to get back into coaching. I don't think he should ever be allowed to be a coach that leads men or boys again. But rich white men tend to get what they want...particularly in the NFL, right.

I agree on Mike & forgiveness, and I was hoping for more facts on Gruden,
because I really haven’t followed the situation closely, but attacking all rich white people over it is a little off. There are plenty of former rich white people in prison and it’s a diversion from the facts on Gruden that I was hoping you would provide with such a strong opinion.

I think its hard to convey entire meaning in a message board so you might
not totally understand my comment. But if you want to know more about Gruden, just read about him. I read enough re his hateful emails to come to the conclusion that I would not want him at VT. That's the only real point I was making - that he would not be a good fit for VT - IMO. Also I pointed out that people tend to forget things (it's got nothing to do with forgiveness, which you brought up). The forgetting part probably has more to do with information overload/ internet noise and people just forget things) and maybe all they remember about Gruden is that he was an NFL coach and won a super bowl so heck yeah we'll take him over Pry, yada yada, without even recalling "why" he was removed from coaching the Raiders. My comment about rich white men was primarily related to NFL coaches over many decades getting fired or tossed aside for losing seasons with one team, only to find themselves back coaching another NFL team shortly thereafter, and on and on, and once again Gruden (who I don't think should be leading men) is back trying to get back into coaching - while there's millions of other qualified non-racists/non-homophobes that could do the job, if they were ever given the chance. Not sure why you bring up prison? ** Edited by Scream_On_D at 8/16/2025, 1:59:34 AM ** Edited by Scream_On_D at 8/16/2025, 2:06:21 AM

Ok thanks for clarifying, I brought up prisons because I wasn’t sure what
way you were going with this. PS I doubt Gruden would get hired , I think the whole thing is clickbait. ** Edited by Stech at 8/16/2025, 7:14:58 AM

Someone is going to give him a shot at some point....
I looked up what was in the emails and yeah they are pretty bad. There is just way too much of it. I think one can recover from being an occasional racist LoL, and I do believe in second chances. With that said I'm not sure he will find his way back.

Good luck to whomever that is. The tap dancing they'll have to do...
...to defend hiring him will be endless and exhausting. People have to ask themselves if it's really worth it. My guess is that most in college ball will decide it isn't. I guess I could see an NFL team giving him a position spot. Maybe.

FWIW it appears the Saints hired him in 2023 to be a coaching consultant.
Then in 2024 the Milano Seamen of the European League of Football (ELF) hired him for a similar role. He was spotted at the Saints training camp, so I don't know if the organization had to do any tap dancing back then or not. No clue if the Italians care about the controversy or not.

Should people be given a second chance or are there some things that are
unforgiveable? The public seems to enjoy a good redemption story, so I am sure some employer will give him a second chance. Assuming he wants to work again and he shows atonement for any past mistakes (if necessary).

I’ve probably been given 1,000 second chances
in my lifetime. Good thing my faith allows me to be forgiven, but I have to forgive others as well.

If Chucky is the next HC at VT, then Hokies fans better love seeing the
offense run Spider 2 Y Banana over and over. Otherwise, it will be a very long season for them. :-)

We are paying 4 mil for pry, and we are on the bottom for salaries
Starting pay for him alone 6-8 million and he would expect 1-1,5 miliion allocated just for coordinators. and more The times of going to a school because its neat at a cheap price is gone.
