...can you blame him? As for hurting the ACC, not so sure. Dave Cutcliffe won games @ Duke when other couldn't although he was eventually fired. Elko has proven winning is possible @ Duke. It's all about finding the right guy.

It's a sad reality of the expansionpalooza aftermath and massive TV contracts that allows ESPN and Fox to pick winners and losers. I'm pretty bearish on where all of this is going for the sport.

There is no economic reason to add more programs after TX and Ok. They would be spreading the cheese to thin. They have Florida and SC covered. Now if FSU wants to sign their mortal souls away to Blackrock or the House of Saud, maybe they get in without a tv share for remaining contract.

IMHO they have killed the PAC and stripped anyone of value from the B12. All that is left with any real football only desirability is ND, Clemson, FSU and Miami. Those 4 all have multiple national championships and all have football TV marketability. Now if the worm changes and it becomes more about carrying their product into new market areas, that is something different. And certainly if you add in all sports, that changes it as well.

Actually two sorry for FSU…big deal that A and M hires Elko- he came from there and he was an obvious hire if you are the coach at Duke after numerous big name coaches said NO to the oil boys…

...are they willing to forgo so much cash in the near term (i.e., the next 10 years) in order to get a bigger payout down the road? Loss of television revenue for 10 years is a massive loss. Smart money would be to kick the can down the road for several years to lessen the financial hit.

...how this expansion thing works out. There will be some winnowing I believe. For example, I don't see much of a future for FBS football @ Syracuse. Not only do they avg. less than 40K per game, but thier basketball program canoutdraw the football program. The bloom has long been off the rose of the Jiffypopdome. It's no longer a novelty. They could very easily drop to FCS and re-join the BE for all other sports. BC? Do they really belong in the ACC, at least football-wise? How much longer is Maryland going to put up with having no chance to be competitive, footballwise, in the b10? Rutgers? What do they bring to the table other than the NYC media market? How are the West Coast teams going to fit in? I can say from the stnadpoint of having lived a stone's throw from the UCLA campus that their fans are apathetic and they will not travel to Iowa City or Lincoln in Nov. Did anyone see the KSU/ISU game last night? It was played in a blizzard. There is a reason USC plays its road games @ ND before Oct. 15. Welcome to the upper Midwest guys.

And when it becomes power 2, I’ll smile the day that they realize alienating 70% of FBS teams to feed the golden goose, goes bust. Because it will. Your regular CFB fans will lose interest in watch 4-5 teams compete for title every year and money will start to dry up.
