George Gervin, AKA ICEBERG SLIM played in the pros at 6’7”, 180. This kid is a baby still with impressive 🏀 skills.

when Jerome was there said nobody recruited him because he was too short. grew about 6-7 inches taller his senior year. Slipped through the cracks and Longwood landed him.

If he sees anytime next year it will be because of his defense and potential shooting. Will need to fill out frame of course but he is fairly athletic.

His wingspan is very long comparative to his height so he likely plays like he is 6'8 anyway

I think VT got exactly what they wanted with their HS recruit in that he has measurables and skill that they wont need to teach
If he picks up the team aspects of the game then he could be a tremendous steal. If he doesnt, then he is closer to Brett Freeman, in being someone who has measurables and skill but not quite the understanding needed to develop into getting playing time.
Its tough, because if it were me, someone like Freeman and this kid should go elsewhere to play and refine their skills through experience. But obviously its better for VT if they sit and develop when its their time.
I dont blame VT for taking a shot, certainly. I dont blame the kid for wanting to play at a HM. I hope he works out

Some people mistake 6-6- 6-8 players that can shoot C&S threes, maybe dribble it a little means they can play the point. For me, it always is about what position you can guard. If you are a 6-7 wing can you guard a 6-0 point with tons of wiggle to their game? Can you stop a 6-1 point from getting around you as much as he wants with his dribble? Can you handle 40 mins of 94’ ball pressure from a lightning quick 5-10 point that his essence is the ability to defend relentlessly the entire game and wear down much taller points with extreme pressure. If you can’t handle that 40 mins of pressure, if you can’t stop the opposing point from consistently getting around you with the dribble then you aren’t a point guard.

Quick guards or physical/athletic forwards. He made some blocks getting back well on fast breaks but was pretty poor guarding his man in general and struggled with opponents that moved a lot on offensive sets.
