that's ridiculous. He was hard to work for. Also, some wanted Curry on the
team with a scholly. Right or wrong. I liked Seth and wanted him to stay but when you're entire cosching staff leaves it has nothing to do with your ccnt or drawl.

In interviews, the FIRST thing he says is you start with the OL and DL
and having big athletic men there, that's where it starts. OF COURSE, he will focus on the OL.

Al Young was FAST, not as "quick" as Hammond.
Funny story, I went to the Dean Smith Basketball Camp at UNC in 1979 and had to play against Al Young, who was being recruited at the time by UNC> Anyway, Al was so athletic, and was dunking all over us in the scrimmage games. Couldn't believe it when I saw him on the Hokies' squad.

Yes, remember it well- I went to the bathroom and missed the TD return!
It was just before halftime. That Bowl game was so much fun the organizers did an awesome job of catering to both fan bases.

Good for them, but don't understand why you want to be-little this gift.
Just say, wow, great and thank you, and then donate something yourself. I did today. we need others to do what they can do,

Well, not to make excuses, our offense went 3 & out 6 times in a row.
We turned it over and gave them bad field position, I thought the defense did as well as they could with what they had and with NO offense to give them any rest. Plus, the D is very shorthanded.

Yep- been a real estate broker for 37 of my 40 years in RE
I will never reveal details of a contract without the client's approval or unless they direct me to do so. I'm with you, I think it's normal, and probably a good sign that we don't know. There are a lot of details in this new hire/arrangement and probably more demands to be met...therefore there's a lot of i's to be dotted and t's crossed in this one.

Agree- I'll repost what I said when I saw the meltdown, here
Re-post
Agree- some can't wait to jump into Negative reactions.
While it's everyone's "right" to express their opinions, and some are right in their observations, just remember, the players and their families are reading the message boards (and always have). I have talked to former players (Hunter Cattoor for one) who said they do read them and he often times wanted to respond to the comments, but didn't. It's hard for them to see some of the piling on constantly in years past when things weren't going right- slumps, a player weakness, a missed bucket or whatever. Love how quickly some are willing to write a negative post, especially the obvious- look at our football fan base. (Btw- I love how Coach Monty has managed to keep this fb team together, he's getting the most out of the players he has- great coaching job by all to keep this group together considering what they've had to deal with)
You could say, well, it's my opinion, I'm right, they shouldn't be reading them, they shouldn't be letting it bother them, etc. But they do. I prefer not to air my criticism during the season because it does not help the situation, whatever it is. I'm not really talking about reaction to the scrimmage, but I can see it happening, especially, when we lose a couple of games. It will take time for this team to play together, to bond, and establish their identity. Let's let it play out and support the team as much as we can. I ended up re-upping my two season tickets for ACC games, and I'm 5 hours away. I hope to make three games this year.
I had the chance to chat with CMY earlier this fall while in town and I wish them the best- I trust he'll figure it out. Ace is high on this team as well, I believe they'll be a better team come January than they are right now.

To attract Top Shelf talent- it'll take someone who has done it at a bigger
school, has had sustained success, and James Franklin has that ability. I like Chesney, but I think the lower risk is to go with the bigger name who is more proven on a national stage. Franklin can sell our program to better talent and continue to recruit in the mid-Atlantic region.

May have missed it, but why did they paint the practice facility gray and
white? Even the pads at the end of the court. Thought the gym looked great with all of the past players on the walls. Thanks in advance for the answer.

I sat near the Taylor's at several bowl games- nice people, and he took at
look at potentially investing in our community near Smithfield. They passed on the opportunity, but he was clearly involved in where Tyrod spent his $$$. Great family.

I met Rosser and his mom last fall when they came to a football game.
They also took in PK's after the game. Seemed like they were having a great time and heard we were in great position (as of last fall). There's some great competition for him however.

The key is Drones' health and RPO with him.
If we get 2023 (second half of season Drones), then I think we can win 8 games. Drones always seem to throw much better after he ran for a first down and delivered a hit at the end. He seemed to get in a rhythm and seemed more decisive/confident. Hopefully, Montgomery knows how to use him. I like some of our new receivers, we'll see. We also need no injuries on the OL.
We also don't know how good other teams will be. We don't know what we don't know- like you said with the transfer portal players, hard to gauge how well they do on their new teams. That's where the new coaches come in. I'm praying for improvement there. We need to start out at least 3-1, and build on the momentum.

Even if he was healthy, I wouldn't have played him in the Spring Game.
HOPEFULLY, it is just a MINOR procedure. As CC mentioned, our recent history of covering up injuries and not being fully transparent doesn't give me comfort.

I have wanted to post this exact thing but was afraid to. I thought this
last year when other teams athletic guards continued to drive into the lane every time, pivot, pivot again and then hit a 6-8 foot shot. Sometimes then didn't have to pivot or pump fake, but they kept scoring in the lane- and they hadn't shot well on the perimeter.
I understand the need to play an aggressive man to man, but it's insane to comtinue allowing the same result on drives. CHANGE UP the defense with a zone to at least stop them from being comfortable, change the momentum, make them shoot from the outside. Stop the penetration.
You don't have to stay in a zone, but at least use it as a surprise from time to time.

yep, I helped tear the one down opposite the Hill. We also threw peaches on
field thinking we were heading to the Peach Bowl, but UNC Coach Dick Crum blackballed playing us, quoted in the paper then- "VT is not in the same class as UNC".

The lack of switching to a zone defense has driven me crazy the
last two years. Switching to a zone to stop the constant opposing guard driving into the lane for points/fouls was hard to watch last year. A temporary zone would at least make them shoot from the outside (which couldn't have been worse than getting beat one on one every time down the floor).

Yea, I like this transfer- we needed more athletic players crashing the
boards- plus he'll add an exciting style of play. We needed a player with his talents to complement the others.

I would say Pedulla also positively affected our play with assists and rest
for our starting guard. He showed great poise and more promise than Rech, maybe because he had a better supporting cast also.

Also- maybe his leaving prevents us from having someone else transfer
for more playing time. Would have rather have RR, but if he doesn't want to be here, there at least won't be the negative vibes on the team.

I heard last Spring Game weekend Maddox was gone last January because of
social media reading message boards. Then he caught on fire in Feb, won the ACC tourney and decided to stay. Most of these kids are dialed in to social media before they get to college. I also heard firsthand from a player that it was tough to read and not respond to the criticism. He almost did, but it's just hard to put up with.
I wish they wouldn't pay attention to it, but they do. I won't say the player's name out of respect. It's another reason why I won't criticize a player on here. I will complain to my friends, but not post those thoughts/comments. It does no good. I wish people would be careful in their constant bashing, it's okay to express opinions, it's their right, but when it comes to a student athlete, just know they're reading your comments. Does it help the situation get better? It's easy to say, "they need thicker skin," or "they shouldn't pay attention to message boards"- well they do.

totally agree. wasn't able to take advantage of this.
Several times we went inside and threw it back out for a 3. Basile got one blocked, we should have driven in the lane more for more points in the paint to take advantage of the opportunity. But we won, so what do I know.

Everyone cheered as MY entered PK's Sat. We were in the front room.
Was supposed to catch up with Ace later, but he had the recruit in town for dinner. Love this coaching staff, able to keep everyone's head up during the tough stretch.
I know last year was tough on the kids reading social media, this year, we had the "excuse" of the injury, so social media has been a little kinder.
Really hope they can continue to build on these last four games (three wins) and get us back to the tourney. When they play withing themselves, it all works.

Oh no, I'm shocked/saddened to hear. I saw Cyrus in Smithfield 6-7 yrs ago
and we talked briefly at the 7/11. He is a great family man. One note: in January, 1982, I walked into After Sundown, a disco where the old Tech Bookstore was located. It was Thursday night, ladies nite. I walked from my dorm to After Scum down, and anticipated the normal flood of freshmen ladies. I saw Cyrus on the dance floor and raised my fist- CYRUS (similar to Animal House moment by the way)- he continued to dance with this hot chick, who was a good dancer- light blue feel me sweater, tight pants. Anyway, after they were done dancing to Earth Wind and Fire, I went up and asked her to dance. We've been married for 36 years to this day.
I loved Cyrus, he was a real warrior on the field, and a gentleman off the field, soft spoken, and very humble. My county, Isle of Wight County is next to Southampton, and I remember watching him play- he was a legend back then. I played for IOW Academy and he played at Southampton same time frame. We were in awe of Cyrus, and I am deeply saddened to hear of this. May God Bless Cyrus Lawrence and his family.
