Bennett did to UVA. They were very meaningful games when, in this landscape, they are more and more rare. His teams have significantly ratcheted up my interest for our head-to-head games. His replacement will be inferior to him and that will lessen the excitement of our games. I call it a net negative for VT and I usually root for UVa to fall on their ass every which way possible.

In the immediate - if Chance Mallory reopens his recruitment, Tech would have a shot. Ultimately this isn’t like football where there’s a ton of overlap in recruiting and in state battles. Tech/UVA usually have zero overlap in recruiting, in fact Mallory is the first guy in a while I can remember both programs have gone 100% after. Even with Bennett gone, uva is still the better program, has more resources, better/newer facilities, etc. I think uva will regress under Sanchez in the long term. I think this season still should result in a tourney appearance which would ultimately get Sanchez the job imo. But I don’t expect this to propel tech in any way.

And uva beat UConn a season or two ago in these all important scrimmages. Still stand by my statement, of a radical position that uva “should be a tourney team”.

then any other high level D1 coach leaving. I do think though that UVa and or VT being strong tends to help raise each other's boats a bit as the rivalry games get more national exposure and seeing the Cassell or JPJ rockin is good TV

Some kids may gravitate to a younger, enthusiastic head coach and staff closer to their age.
