Despite the historical bad blood between ND and the Big Ten
I would have to think if push came to shove and they were forced to pick one, they'd prefer the Big Ten over the SEC. Better geographic fit, rekindle several traditional rivalries (Michigan, MSU, USC) and keep the ability to play a national schedule with the four west coast schools

Two things can be true...
1. ACC fans have a right to be mad at ND in the wake of their AD throwing a childish temper tantrum after the CFP selection. Time heals most wounds but that one is still relatively fresh.
2. The ND-ACC arrangement benefits the ACC. It also benefits ND greatly, allowing them to schedule 5-6 P4 opponents in Oct/Nov and giving them a home for their other sports in a league with similarly-aligned institutions that makes geographic sense for ND. The Big Ten and SEC aren't giving ND that deal. The Big 12 would, but ND would probably schlep it back to the Big East before it ever aligned itself with the likes of Houston, West Virginia, and Kansas State.

Well, the alternative was making $7M/year in the AAC playing Tulsa and Rice
But yes, it's been great for us. Average attendance was over capacity in football this year -- if you'd told me that ten years ago I would've referred you to a psych ward
Also, love the road trips. Went to Cameron for the first time ever a few weeks ago. Just booked Tallahasse for the Labor Day game.
Hope some of you make it down for the VT game in November. Visiting fans love the Boulevard for tailgate (it's like the Grove at Ole Miss) and hopefully it will be a game with ACCCG implications for both teams.

Well ESPN was offering the Pac-12 $30M per school
And that was with Oregon and Washington still in the mix. So I'd say the Four Corners were value-neutral adds to the Big 12. I recall Fox was pushing back on upping its payments pro rata for the Big 12 when the Four Corners were added (Fox was not obligated to do so) and so the $31.6M figure may actually be lower. I guess we'll see when the 990 tax filings come out.

The current B12 media contract pays $31.6M/school annually
The reported offer that ESPN/Fox gave the Pac-12 post-USC/UCLA (but with Oregon/Washington still in the mix) was $30M per school annually. Now that was probably ESPN's starting point and they probably would've gone slightly higher (maybe 34-35M), but I'd say the Big 12 deal is pretty accurately valued as it stands now.

Watching Duke-FSU on CBS now so obviously they do. Was not aware of that part of the ACC TV deal. Can't recall seeing another ACC game on a CBS channel before

I do find it funny that you continually root for the demise of the ACC. If/when that happens, there's a decent chance that Alabama and Georgia are travelling to Charlottesville for conference games while VT is in no better spot than they are now. Would you be happy then?

If you made me CFB commissioner...
...all the bowls would be wrapped up by New Year's Day. After that, either have a committee or BCS-like formula determine the top two teams who would then meet three weeks later on MLK Day at a neutral site for the national championship. This would make the bowls much more relevant as each one would provide additional data points and the big bowls would act as quasi playoff games.

A few things...
1. Miami fans just made the trek to Texas for the A&M game last week (and many likely came through Dallas); hard to justify going back again 12 days later.
2. OSU fans were just here last year for the Cotton Bowl
3. AT&T Stadium is a total pain the ass to get to from pretty much anywhere in Dallas. Traffic is a ***** and there's no public transportation option. Parking is comically expensive and Ubers jack the rates up through the roof to get there on game days. I live 15 miles away; you could offer me a free ticket and I probably would still prefer to watch at home. So that puts a damper on local casual fans attending. There is almost zero buzz around Dallas for this game.
I feel like the 3-4 round playoff structure really wears on fans and their enthusiasm to travel to far-flung neutral sites.

A lot of Big 12 programs were already treading water financially...
then the House settlement added an additional $20M+ line item to the annual budget.
Only schools I'd be surprised to see take this deal are BYU, Tech, and TCU.

I believe the exit fee was $17M to leave the American
But we make approx 2X more in revenue in the ACC than we did in the American, so it wasn't much of a hit at all. ND would be losing money each year moving from the ACC to the Big East.

I don't recall that, but maybe I'm forgetting something. Vanderbilt cancelled on us nine months before our game. I can't think of any series we cancelled. We did move our return game at BYU back to 2031; not sure if that was our request or theirs.

They make $20M from the ACC deal; if they were to go to the Big East they would make about half of that. The Big Ten and SEC will not accommodate their desire to be independent in football. They're already having trouble keeping USC on the schedule for football without moving the game to September, which leads me to believe they'd have a hard time filling out a competitive schedule without 4-5 ACC games in October and November.

H2H should control with everything else being relatively equal
BYU had two regular season losses, both in November, and one to a 5-7 team at home
SMU was 11-2 with the second loss coming on a last second FG in the ACCCG.
Two regular season losses is more than one regular season loss. If I'm biased then I guess so were the CFP, AP and Coaches Poll voters, all of whom had SMU 5+ spots ahead of BYU in their final ranking before the playoff.

They were a 10-2 SEC team with one of the best wins in the country (at #3 Georgia), and the committee wasn't going to punish them for having to play in the SECCG

Different set of circumstances
BYU was 10-2 in the regular season while SMU was 11-1. BYU also lost twice in November, including to a 5-7 Kansas team at home.
