Posting History (363)

I don't see anyone here "running with it" like it's 100% true

They're merely discussing possibilities. That's the purpose of a message board. Discussion.

The Lounge 1 mo ago

Yep - and they can carry that mental atrophy over to Facebook

That platform was already going downhill, but the over-60s rendered it completed unusable.

Precisely. Even if we wanted to get a transfer Pitcher

We’re not in the market for any “big name” group of 5 pitchers who want to move up. They will command lots of $$ and Va. Tech doesn’t have it.

I’m gonna cheer for UCF

I’m not convinced UCLA is that great, but it’ll still be a tall order for UCF. As the years go by and the former PAC softball powers (UCLA/Oregon/Washington) spend more time in the frigid BIG, their national prestige will continue to decay. They’ll probably be able to maintain solid OOC schedule metrics, but their conference slates will tank their overall SOS and prevent them from being tested late in the regular season (when you really want your team to show what they got to prep for the postseason). I hope my theory is correct and this continues to happen - especially to these schools. Nebraska will take care of itself. When their once-in-a-century star graduates, they will return to the middle of the pack. Unless they start shelling out money like Texas Tech, they’re destined to fade into oblivion. Such a shame.

FWIW the NCAA doesn’t like this trend of canceling

To game the RPI metrics. Not saying that’s what they’re doing, but schools might want to be mindful of the appearance of such actions. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/11/2026, 6:13:23 PM ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/11/2026, 6:14:34 PM

I wonder what the #1 was?

If I had to bet, it was prob at a park that had one of the finalists as the host. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/10/2026, 5:37:06 PM

Is this supposed to be sarcasm?

I’m a regular contributor here, and a much more engaged user on this sub than you based on post history 🤷‍♂️

Any scenario that allows a team to boost its rating by having a tough sched

Even when that team loses ALL of those tough games, is garbage and should be canned.

Yep - the premier OOC tournaments like Clearwater do us no favors by

1. Not inviting us - Obviously not having highly ranked opponents hurts our SOS. 2. Inviting some of the same "blue blood" programs every year - some of the same teams get the benefit of a consistent invite which increases their SOS and makes it hard to compete against them for hosting spots when it's tourney time. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy that schools like FSU benefit from while schools like VT don't have that built-in advantage. That's without even mentioning the geographic advantage FSU has by being in the Deep South and being able to easily fill out a schedule against quality opponents. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/4/2026, 12:06:39 PM

Why do you think HRs are the definitive metric for judging an elite team?

I’m assuming you realize that their offensive HRs have nothing to do with their defensive or pitching prowess. For perspective, they could be total garbage in the field but have stellar homer numbers. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/4/2026, 8:52:13 AM

It’s great to see Layton get more innings lately

Would be nice to enter the postseason with a strong, 3-arm rotation. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/1/2026, 11:16:13 PM

None of the words you just replied with defend your claim that

FSU had no problem with Georgia Tech. Clearly there was at least one game where FSU had a big problem with GT (the problematic one where they had that problem of extra innings. Did I mention that game had problems for FSU?) You were wrong, but you clearly have problems acknowledging that fact. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/1/2026, 10:10:01 PM

It doesn't look like anyone is going to indulge your pot stirring

There is no anti-Thomas faction other than what you have conceived of in your mind. Perhaps your time would be better spent promoting the softball program instead of holding on to some imaginary grudge 🤷‍♂️ I’d imagine the overwhelming majority of folks here are very proud of what Scot Thomas built here, and appreciate him immensely. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 5/1/2026, 8:08:18 PM

Define “no problem” re: FSU sweeping GT

Usually a game goes to extra innings because both teams had problems winning in the standard 7 innings allotted. They won another game by one run (4-3). FSU did no-hit them 4-0 in the remaining game, so that one would be a”no problem” game (though they only had 6 hits).

It's still bush league behavior IMO, but can't argue w/ her win/loss record

When it's time for Patti to retire and OU goes with the nepo baby hire, how many years will it take for her son to tank the program? Or am I way off base with my assumptions?

Can you please provide more context/details around

"Will's message exchange with Whit years ago?" Not sure what this is in reference to

I've never seen a team celebrate walks more than Oklahoma.

They're Oklahoma and have plenty to cheer about. But really? Walks?! It's rather pathetic.

What's sad is Tech would be in much better position to host

if they had played 5 or 6 additional top-15 games and lost all of them. Just ask Duke.

Can someone explain why this is the “biggest win of the year?”

They’ve beaten a top-5 team on the road, so why is beating NC State that big of a deal? I don't ask this to be a jerk, it's a legit question as someone who doesn't follow college baseball at all. Thanks!

What’s frustrating is I bet if we swapped out Georgia Tech for FSU

And still went 1-2, and swapped out Clemson for Stanford and went 1-2 instead of 2-1, the team would prob be in a much better position for hosting - despite an additional loss.

Umm yeah I do.

I don’t think the future AD will have much to do with football. In my opinion, Franklin won’t be reporting to that person. He’ll be largely autonomous.

Not really. I think the sentiment - unless I’m way off - is that things

can’t get much worse. There’s low-hanging fruit that the new AD can use to score some easy goodwill points with the softball crowd: charge for admission!

Yeah I remember you saying a pitcher is usually 80% “formed”

When she arrives on campus, so there’s not a ton of room for growth. Makes Keely’s improvement extra special for sure.

Here are my unsolicited thoughts

1. These ladies are excellent representatives of our school and deserve all of our support. I know we already agree on this, but it's worth repeating for emphasis. 2. As others have mentioned, we came into the season with big questions around pitching. As a result, many were leaning toward this being a "down" or "rebuilding" year, but 38-9 is damn good and the ladies should be proud. 3. Maybe going on the road for the post season wouldn't be so bad? Perhaps there are fewer distractions on the road which allows the team to be more focused and approach their roles with greater intensity. 4. Maybe the current skid is good and will serve as a wake up call as the team proceeds to the post season. With this post, I'm probably guilty of being a "Pollyanna" by not pointing out obvious flaws. That's fair. However, I feel like those have been highlighted enough and the team is quite aware of what they need to work on. I say all of this as a very pessimistic person in general, so here's to hoping that by going against my inherent impulses the team and universe at large will reward us with future success! ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 4/23/2026, 10:32:13 AM

I'd argue that Keely was not yet elite when she came in as a freshman

She became elite through hard work when Pete and team showed up. I don't say this to denigrate her in any way - she was most definitely a talented, sought-after prospect coming in.

Give it a rest already about what coach said

You’ve made your point. EDIT: The ladies are also 5-2 since you started beating that dead horse. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 4/12/2026, 6:35:32 PM

I expect them to do their job and make it happen.

I’m pretty sure Tech won’t be the only school in the US with grad ceremonies that weekend. Tech’s also not the only school in a relatively rural locale, so this isn’t a unique issue. Isn’t this part of the reason we have an on-campus hotel? This also was a predictable issue, so I’d hope arrangements were being made back in the Fall at least. That’s probably a silly suggestion though.

EXACTLY - it doesn't need to be some over-the-top behemoth

Just some targeted renovations that improve the overall look while upping capacity a bit and improving the overall fan experience a bit. The key word, as Chip said, is "practical." Most of us would be onboard with donating to something like that. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/30/2026, 7:05:52 PM

I try to keep the negativity to a minimum

But I’m increasingly concerned that even if softball qualifies for a hosting gig in the postseason, that we won’t be able to fulfill the obligation (it’d be an honor, really, for a very successful season. Should not be seen as an obligation). I’m hardly the first to bring this up, and the fact that a TSL employee pointed this out weeks ago has me extra concerned. Again, sorry for being downer, but this is the sort of thing (in my eyes at least) that could cause Pete to leave. If it happens, it shows a complete lack of effort or interest in the program by those at the top. Hopefully I’m worrying over nothing, but given the way Whit has treated the program thus far, I would not be surprised one bit. I haven’t seen this brought up before, but why was it determined that baseball deserved a brand new stadium (a palace when compared to what the softball team has)? It certainly wasn’t because of program success. I know Whit was a baseball guy, so perhaps that’s why? If so, that’s really stupid. I used to think the Whit hate was over the top, but the overall ****ty results speak for themselves. The softball team is successful IN SPITE OF WHIT BABCOCK. In fact, I'd say the team is WILDLY SUCCESSFUL despite its toughest opponent masquerading as its biggest fan. It's pathetic. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/30/2026, 2:43:26 PM ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/30/2026, 2:51:53 PM ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/30/2026, 5:14:59 PM

She was incredible for sure. When I saw that she led the team to a win

Over Team USA, I wasn’t even that surprised. She was that good. During regular season games I’d always check the box score to see how many Ks she collected. It sounds crazy to say this but I’d consider a “standard” outing for Angela to be around 14 Ks. Anything less than that would be a little disappointing (she was rarely below 8 or 9 if memory serves). She certainly spoiled us! 😆 ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/27/2026, 9:03:46 AM

Looks like the Big 10 is figuring out Grein.

Not sure why it took so long. Such a shame. ** Edited by RVAHokie05 at 3/27/2026, 8:02:15 AM

Yeah I didn’t think about that! Especially given the airport craziness

The DH def wouldn’t work on Sunday. Hope the ladies stay warm! They do have experience with cold temps so I guess that’s good.
