Posting History (780)

Anyone see this article from the always delightful Chris Graham?

UVa athletics is seemingly run like a travel ball club where parent complaints are driving the bus. From the article, seems like softball isn't the only sport being run this way.

In the old days there were consequences. Showboat = earful of a fastball

next time up. If they were an infielder somebody might go sliding in with their cleats up a little high. In the old days situations were typically self policed.

Situational depth. Did you see the way they were just plugging players in

for special situations last night? Heck, they were moving players around like chess pieces. Infield -> Outfield; Outfield -> Infield; left -> right; right -> left; bench -> field; field -> bench. All of it even mid inning sometimes. I kind of see us as a really good travel team with great 1st line players but the coaches are all parents of the 1st line players. The kids on the bench don't get a lot of playing time until those front line players move on. I know our SOS has left a lot to be desired recently which means we have to win. A lot. That means we have to play those front line players. A Lot. BUT, it kills us at the end of the year. They are worn down, all their tendencies are now on tape and the bench players haven't gotten a lot run in live game situations. When was the last time we saw Pete pull a player mid inning for a bonehead play? Think any of the 4 coaches from yesterday would hesitate to do that?

can we also throw in enforcing the pitching rules like outside the lane

and the true crow hop. The way some of the screwball pitchers step outside the lane is wild that it is never called. Then we have the pitchers who lift their plant foot and then step into the pitch drives me nuts. It's like there are now rules anymore - like there was when Emma Lemley was pitching against certain programs....

Might get killed for asking this but is Charlottesville’s weather

Significantly better than Blacksburg’s? We had what 13 home games and UVA had 25. I live in Harrisonburg and I don’t believe the weather in Blacksburg is that much different than here.

I believe we were pretty beat up here at the end of the year. Noticed both

Jordan and Anni with wraps on their throwing hand since the ACC Tourney. We know about Bree. I think an explanation for Zoe behind the plate is that she has been hurt for about half the season. Mighty Mite hit the freshman wall headlong. I don’t believe Sophie ever fully recovered from her surgery. I’m sure there were others also and most teams are a little beat up at the end of the year. I do believe that one of the reasons Pete doesn’t do a lot of lineup shuffling is our SOS does not allow for many losses. Without getting other players in and giving every day players a chance to rest creates a lot of wear and tear injuries

I think they did when it was already too late. Planning ahead for certain

scenarios seems to outside the skillset of some in the AD. Granted, Graduation weekend is hard to navigate but certainly not impossible.

In this part of the state (Harrisonburg) Staunton is the edge of the earth.

Nothing exists past there. Growing up in SWVA anything north of Roanoke was all north.

I think we are very good. Best? Don’t think we are quite there yet.

If we can pitch like the last 2 days and we can continue to hit, maybe. Tomorrow will be a great litmus test. I really like this team a lot. Best ever? I am just not there yet.

The team that went to supers vs UCLA was pretty special. Pitching has

Been great the past 2 games and good the rest of the year. We don’t give up HR’s as in the past couple of years. Hitting has been good but FSU has a tremendous scouting staff and I’m sure they have spotted the holes and weaknesses in all of our swings. To be the best team we have ever had we will have to make it OKC and then we can begin the discussion. IMO which actually means very little. Don’t get me wrong, we are very good but the best? We ain’t there yet. And I did say yet…….

I don't mind the subtle frame job like just the natural motion of catching

carries the mitt to the zone but the lateral movement of 8-12 inches is just ridiculous.

As much fun as hosting would be. In the long run I think an 18 seed would

be better than a 16 seed hosting for supers. I still like our chances to make it to Supers even as the 2nd seed in regionals. A 16 seed would mean if we made it to Supers we would play the 1 in Supers.

Gotta say - If I were an ump, a catcher who tries to frame every single

pitch would irritate the ever livin' hell out of me. You would get zero borderline calls. None.
