This has to wear on Pete. To host at VT he has to be nearly perfect at this
point. At what point does he leave for an SEC school where you can loose double the games and be mid pack in your conference and still host?

Schedule a much harder pre conference schedule. Play in Nutter, Clearwater or other really tough tournaments. Those pre conference weekends we play one good team and several bad teams. When you lose to a bad team it hurts a lot more.

He scheduled UGA, South Carolina, Auburn, Penn State, and Michigan. All those teams completely underperformed expectations other than UGA.

When the schedule was announced, I researched last year's records, including RPI.
Last week, I included a column on this year's RPI. Take a look at the difference.
Of the 25 early season games that were scheduled, only FOUR teams (five games) improved their RPI from a year ago. And FIVE teams dropped in RPI by over 100 spots. That absolutely kills the strength of schedule component.

lack of hotels. VT was denied their bid to host by the NCAA because of those factors. Clemson would have likely have struggled to host as well
