More later - But VT wasn't going to host because of graduation
and the lack of hotels. This is what the NCAA rep communicated. The committee didn't look at that in terms of seeding, but VT was denied the ability to host due to those factors. VT did its due diligence with the NCAA.
Again, they 17 seed had nothing to do with the inability to host per the rep

and then explained we didn't meet the requirements to host. Two separate issues.

criteria. VT knows the issue. They just have to decide how to manage it.

I wonder how Pete handled that with the team? Imagine if we had won 5 more games (a distinct possibility) and been an 8 seed but get sent to an SEC stadium. This is the kind of thing that would make coach wonder if he/she is in the right place.

And how they will play anywhere. He didn't address it

He said for the cameras that "we don't care where we play, who we play."
He was not "disappointed." "Going into this season, he thought they had a really good schedule lined up. We got unlucky with the teams that did not do well. We had a projected RPI but you don't know what teams are going to be like."
He was confident we had "a strategy to host here" when asked about the graduation thing.
When asked about what the players think about not hosting: The players don't care. We play on the road more than at home, and we have to be good on the road.

Wurthman pretty much indicated such when he was at the Blacksburg Sports Club meeting.

That might cause them some heartburn since they spread theirs out for three days. But Hooville might have enough “qualified” hotel rooms available at that time.
Assuming they get to hosting level next year……

They faded down the stretch worse than we did this season, but might not do so next year.

So we would have traveled at 15 or 16 anyway?

Logic would indicate what you said but it was not pointed out

So, we could still theoretically host the Super Regional

VT would play the winner of the Alabama regional. If Alabama loses, VT hosts the Super Regional.

Announcing team, any NCAA reps, etc. Pete takes the team to a hotel to avoid distractions. I think the hotels have to be within 30 miles(?).
VT graduates around 4,000 each year. That's a SWAG.

available to the visiting teams, and I believe each hotel is to be within 30 miles. There may be other requirements as to the hotels as well, like food service availability, etc.

. . . not POSSIBLE to work with a couple of hotels to guarantee rooms? It would've required some creative thinking and cooperation but seems possible. Booking.com is showing availability in Roanoke at a number of places.
