VT doesnt have to be number 1, even 20. But we are at the bottom and…

We can be a lot better. It’s almost like we aren’t trying - eg, no GM.
And no dedicated fund raising for MBB nil. It is a joke the more I think about it. The art of the not possible with this AD. But it’s all washed away bc “hey we’re VT, we can’t be that good in MBB and look we hired JF!”

talking about upward movement, too bad he couldn't do it at Vt..
...it was an opportunity for our own fav program to elevate itself in terms of perception. Now, I'm hearing the opposite on all the channels covering this ("MY didn't know what to do with him", "needed more talent around him", etc.)

Here I can help - if VT doesn't "Underestimate the market" in 2024 and...
..just funds the program to the median, we have Juke Harris and looking at a perimeter of Johnson, Hammond, and Harris. That simple change wins (no Neo but prob keep a Nickel) and is NCAA bound, especially next year. Instead we cry with poor ole VT, can't do anything mindset as major Alumni pools in NOVA, Charlotte, RTP, and Richmond just can't be leveraged. It is just yoo hard - "look how small Blacksburg is" and "We can only focus on football!"

I'm w/ you, but my point is the MBB funding issues are due more to our..
..Admin who is in over their head and/or not able to adapt to running the AD more like a business and it is more clear every day. The latest is this NIL hoops fiasco, but they live off these excuses of "not P2", "Blacksburg" or "remember VT was not good 15 years ago", i..e, the "poor ole' VT mindset". If not for our "activist Alums" we would not even have Franklin who is pushing for required changes and hopefully it works in the most important sport (based on $$'s).
We need new leadership in the worst way to see what VT can really do, especially in MBB.

VT has more now with the increase. They are simply better run.
~$190M vs $155M, unless they get an unexpected windfall this year like VT.

I mean, this would be extremely not smart for MY to abide by and it…
…does not appear he is with major production coming from a number of 1 or 2 yr guys (Bedford, Neo, Gurdak, and Hans this year ). I feel like this was something said in his first two years to do the old “VT can’t be good” qualification, needing a “system coach” or we can’t be competitive.
It is just not the case, nor the reason we did not make the NCAA this year.

…sales opportunity - “we did it, adding an additional $47M to the VT athletics budget to bring us in line with the top ADs in the nation. If you can give now to our our MBB nil, we can bring MBB to the top of the ACC and back in the field in march! (Which was the sated goal)”
Too hard? Get some type of excitement and push to a revenue generating program with a solid core?

Hard to believe Whit can be this dense, or maybe he's just running...
...out the clock. A potential $15M revenue product if we're good, but we decide to fold the program and potentially lose money like last year b/c football said so.

Love to know where all this money is going. If it's all going toward football then we must be running with a top 5ish budget as $190M is a healthy amount for any P4 Ath Dept, especially if other sports aren't getting anything more than before. Hopefully the results make up for possibly depressing hoops even more and ushering MY to a sad end.

Interesting, he really turned if over at a high rate in NCAA & ACC...
..tournaments at >4 gm and looked mortal. But man, great all around game, suction cup hands, shoots ~40% from 3 and can handle the ball. He should be more than ok, but I guess top 5....tough.

UNC should go after Painter. Not sure there is a more underrated coach.
Non-stop winning and NCAAs with teams that on paper are not exactly Blue-chip.

Personally liked the 2018 team better with Bibbs & Clarke. Just didn’t…
…couldn’t get it done those last two games. Blowing a 20 pt lead against ND and making an almost .500 bama team look like golden state. Thought they could have advanced just as far.

Kind of a mixed bag of "BIG BOYS" as the top team didn't make the NCAAs..
..as well as two others on this list. And Roughly half had double digit losses or so. It isn't quite so black and white. The "poor" peeps are competing with these guys just fine outside of 3-4 on this list who for sure dominate with their war chests.
I just hope that VT would stop running and funding their program like it is the Big South (I guess that's why we love MY). VT can certainly do better and don't think we have to match these teams (or cry as we do nothing) to compete or make the NCAAs (which is the goal).

...now The increase puts us in the top 20 for funding. So are we running with a top 5 football budget, everything is going toward it?
MBB will get you a surplus if it's good, so it wouldn't be "taking" money away from Football.
