Who will start at 125? Flynn just made a statement in Poland.
Sorry I'm just a novice on this board. ** Edited by Lakeridgehokie at 7/31/2023, 10:42:32 AM

Indeed he did. Pretty impressive.

Flynn may have the ability to use an Olympic redshirt year
The way that Lewis did prior to the previous Olympics

I think it was already stated on here that he would take an Olympic RS.
SCHokie1103 SCHokie1103
So who’s the most likely replacement at 125?

Coop was already behind Eddie V the RS gives him a year for a spot to open
at 133 most likely

Thank you sir

Coop will redshirt this year IMO
I believe Eddie has the 25 spot as a returning AA. Coop has been impressive this freestyle season. Maybe next year we see Eddie at 25, Coop at 33, Sam to 41 for his final year. Or Coop and Eddie still battle it out in 24-25 for the 125 spot and Sam stays at 33. We may eventually lose one of them to transfer, but great to have 2 studs at the weight. Of course we still have Church, Crook, Mason to mix in at the 41-49 range. I think once Andonian graduates, Caleb may move up to 57 giving a little bit of room for the 41, 49. Fortunate to have the great team problems with some guys in redshirt at different times and strong depth.... It will be Eddie this year though at 125 I believe. ** Edited by VTwinsdad at 7/31/2023, 11:09:14 AM ** Edited by VTwinsdad at 7/31/2023, 11:10:19 AM ** Edited by VTwinsdad at 7/31/2023, 11:11:10 AM

Coach Robie has stated Cooper is going to take the Olympic RS this year.

I think Crook has seen the last of 141.

Agree
Making 141 was tough on him as season went on.
AirborneHokie96 AirborneHokie96
Yes he had troubles making weight and it killed his gas tank

Good to see you posting 96. I asked about you the other day because I had
not seen you post for awhile.

Henson seems awful short for 157 to me.
SCHokie1103 SCHokie1103
Wrestles much bigger😎

Would be nice if Caleb could bump to 157 - but I agree
149 works for him. He is solid and strong but it appears 149 is best weight class for him. It could change - but I see 149 still.

I like him at 149
And unless someone comes in that's an absolute freak at 149, you need to keep him at his best weight. He's a title contender, and maybe our best shot at our next national champ, simply because he had more tries left than Mekhi and Bryce and Sam.

I could see Crook going 157 before Henson IMO.

Flyer I absolutely love wrestling both HS and college but still have a lot
to learn about the sport itself. Scoring offense, defense, rules and all that. I’m getting better at it. But much more to learn. So don’t be too hard on me lol What kind of team do you see us having this year and any thoughts on the starters of the different weights.
Hokie Flyer Hokie Flyer
IMHO
Starting lineup: 125 Vent 133 Latona 141 Crook or other (if Crook rSh)? 149 Henson 157 Andonian 165 Brady 174 Lewis 184 TBD, but would love to See Fisher or Stewart. 197 Smith (Sasso is likely rSh) 285 Catka Team will be very good and has an excellent chance of reaching podium (4th or higher as a team). The challenges are that we have 5 guys that are project Top 6 AA level and then 5 that will qualify but not generate team points at NCAAs - so quite the polarizing potentials at NCAAs. Andonian and Lewis are quite capable of reaching finals. And it would be fantastic if we get a surprise at any of the 141, 165, 184, 197 or 285 weights. Going to be a fun year and I suspect a little weird with the takedown scoring changes (3 pt vs 2 pt). Others may have different takes - mine is only one of many,

Thank you Flyer. I really appreciate your input and respect your knowledge
of the sport. I appreciate you taking the time to share with me.

Your thoughts on 25 through 57 are line with my thoughts ....
I would bet my house that these discussions about Sam at 141 in 2024/2025 have already taken place. IMHO, there is no way that Cooper would hang around next year or the year after with him still fighting for a spot. 2 years as a non-starter, now way. ** Edited by hokietony at 7/31/2023, 11:57:04 AM

This is my bet as well.
I think Flynn rShirts. Then we see Flynn/Vent @ 125/133 and Latons 141. Henson 149. Then laybe back to Flynn/Vent/Crook/Henson. Don't forget we still have rSh available for Crook and Henson to space things out. I could even see Henson going for the Oly option. Henson looks like a natural 149 unless he sprouts. With the new talent coming in, Crook may be challenged.

In 2024-2025
Believe we’ll see: 125 Ventresca/Flynn 133 Flynn/Ventresca 141 Latona 149 Henson - currently he would be a “small” 157. He is strong as can be - but 149 seems to be ideal for him. Could change. 157 - ? Reason I asked Coach Robie in thread below about the plan at 57 & 74. Assuming Henson doesn’t move up. Having seen Hipolito wrestle a few times I thought 157 may be a potential slot for him. Coach Robie stated he is at 165. Things could change - guys could grow - portal possibilities after next season.

I am pretty sure Eddie is 125 for his career.
If Latona bumps up then expect Flynn is the one to bump up to 133.
D

I could see Crook RS and bulking up to 157
Would mean Church or Mason are ready to go 141 right away. Think we need to go portal for 74 after Mekhi.
E
emhokie
The stable is full of studs
Add Mason and Church into the 141 mix. Top tier program problems are good to have. I can remember 15+ years ago when depth wasn’t even a discussion. Now we have national qualifier and AA’s fighting for spots. Go hokies
