This story was a nothing burger.....
from the start. UVA was not going to get in the range of what KB makes at UK and Brooks was likely just stirring the waters to see if he could wring anymore financial concessions out of UK athletic administrators. It did create some message board fodder for a brief period. Without a further uptick in his UK results Brooks is bumping up against his compensation ceiling. When Strack is gone his actual arsenal of weapons will be further depleted.

whatever , it is a thank God moment
none of us here will want to admit it but Brooks to UVA could have put VT WBB in hospice. Regardless, VT is in a precarious position if UVa can and does commit to WBB proportionally like they do to MBB vis-a-vis VT. The demise of WBB will become another Babcock legacy point.

Denial my good friend
He wouldnt have come to uva without a hell of a budget. Not only would he with relish getting the players he wanted over VT on the front end but he would have especially enjoyed Aprils , poring over our roster and seeing who we had developed and could then buy. Still might be doing that from UK but having it occur from the proximity of 2 hours north would have been hell on earth

Virginia Tech struggles with women’s basketball has nothing to do with
Anything involving Brooks whether he goes to UVA or not. Virginia Tech, success or continued struggles will be on the athletic department and AD to support their coach with the funding necessary to be successful or not. To bring Brooks into that equation is simply comical. I also agree with 2hhoop3 in that Brooks is not all that. Solid recruiter but is not that really impressive as an in game coach and X and Os guy. Always played to many favorites IMPHO at a detriment to the team and team chemistry.

You're giving Brooks.....
far more headspace than his actual performance has warranted IMO. He is a good recruiter but, the rest of his skill set is subject to debate.

Before Kitley and Amoore we would lose games when we
we're up by 15 in the 4th quarter. I recall people joking it was better if we were close instead of up big going into the 4th.

Yeah, it also took him 6 years (and the growth of Amoore into her So year)
to figure out how to break a press. Brooks's on-court and system structure coaching ability are way over-rated by some. And that's not a knock on him. He built and coached the best basketball team (men's or women's) in VT history. And that's something everyone should respect. ** Edited by King of Hokies at 4/8/2026, 11:10:32 AM

I think that most people were not as concerned about KB because he sure
seems to screw up or freeze up when games into the 4th quarter. He seems to not have the ability to adjust to other team's adjustments. Right or wrong, very few people have as high of opinion of his abilities as you do.

My high opinion isnt based on in game coaching but
Only one coach has gotten us to Final Fours and recruited multiple all Americans. I dont like the guy okay. But ill call it as I see it. Our program, with a GOOD coach, is trending average waters since he left, and probably is outperforming its talent level. And I dont see a lot of ways to significantly upgrade talent based on budget. So we will be fortunate to remain where we are.

I understand what you are saying but that coach got us to the final 4 with
a generational player. How many generational players have VT had across all sports? Not many, at all. So, he did get us to the final 4 but in that game he did not adjust in the 4th quarter with a 9 point lead. So, to my point if he cannot coach in game when it matters, he is less of a concern even though he has great talent. I do agree with your assessment of the current team. They most likely did outperform their talent.

Our new coach in year 1 with no time to build a roster barely missed the
NCAA. In year 2 we were T5 in the entire ACC, easily made the NCAA and tied for 4th most wins in VT history. That's a waaaay better record than Kenny Brooks had in his first two years. In fact, it took Brooks 5 years to reach the NCAA tournament. My suggestion is for people to stop undervaluing Duffy and what she's accomplished in her very short tenure at VT.

you obviously havent read my posts
which have consistently praised Duffy as a good coach. But I'll stand by my original post- it is a good thing for VT that Brooks isn't going to UVa.
King of Hokies King of Hokies

Meh. uva was probably going to hire a good coach. And sure, Brooks is a
good coach. But he isn't Geno Auriemma. And he's not a better coach than Duffy. I doubt he's even a better coach than Roussell. It's just that he recruited the best player to ever play at VT and surrounded her with enough pieces to get us to the Final Four. He hasn't replicated that, even with Strack and the resources of Kentucky. So I think you're overblowing it. In fact, I know you're overblowing it. We have a *great* coach at VT. Let's see what she can do. ** Edited by King of Hokies at 4/8/2026, 11:28:21 AM

I thought he was leveraging the UVA job for more money from UK.
Thought that from the beginning...

UVA supposedly offered him less than he makes at UK
They thought that he would move back home for less money? Carla is thinking like Whit now; how cheap can I get a coach? 😂 They sure had the Richmond coach lined up pretty quick. It was like, we know we can’t afford Brooks, but maybe he’ll run home, so let’s make him an offer. They already had the real guy lined up.

I thought Brooks would jump on the UVA job. If the reports are true that
UVA offered him in the first place, and then offered him two-thirds of what he is currently making, I can understand it though. His ego would not have allowed him to do that. And most everyone else’s ego would not either.
