He made NCAA second round in 1of 6 appearances over 15 years. She made NCAA 1st round 3x over 4 years. Would have in COVID year. If you (unfairly) extrapolate, she’d have ~12 NCAAs in 15 years at a non-P5 school
Given better recruiting available to her at VT, I’d expect strong results. The BE is still tougher than the CAA KB coached in.

and she’s always been in post-season play. Her Marquette win % is better than KB at VT. I’ve seen absolute % quoted.
KB James Madison University: 337–122 (.734) 193–56 (.775)
Virginia Tech: 180–82 (.687) ACC 76–60 (.559)
MB Marquette: 110–46 (.705) BE 64–30 (.681)
Miami (OH): 44–20 (.688) MAC 25–11 (.694)

...don't seem to be too upset at her leaving. I don't wanna be that guy, but so far I have two observations:
1) Her record against UConn was not great.
2) I get Courtney Banghart vibes from her.

a few opinions that many Marquette fans on that board have about Tech:
- Marquette is superior to Tech as a university in every way except football
- No coach would leave Marquette for Tech unless the coach is very bad and is going to be fired by Marquette anyway

do make you think 🤔🤔 though, which is good, as long as you don’t take their advice without knowing their experience, like pretty much everything in life. Be careful of plane passengers with no experience telling you how to fly the plane.

Yeah but he didn't play Iowa & LSU every year like Marquette does w/ UConn
in fact it looks like they play 2-3 times a year. Her record against them was:
0-3 in '23-24
1-2 in '22-23
0-2 in '21-22
0-3 in '20-'21
We can say, "oh no one beats UConn" but is that how we're going to feel if we get beat constantly by Stanford, ND, NCST, and Louisville? We need a coach that knows how to beat the top teams.
I'm not saying she's going to be a bad coach or she's a bad hire, but this is a red flag for me. JMO.

before 1995 in football. I believe we can give her a chance to beat better teams as we have more resources here than Marquette does. (different sport but same principle)

To beat them you have to out-recruit them. I’d say nobody is deciding between Marquette and UConn to play WBB. How many times did Kenny Brooks go head to head with South Carolina for recruits.
If we define success as beating UConn or South Carolina, all of our other spending and effort should reflect that. As has been documented, we’re defining success as winning an ACC football championship. If Hicks can have the WBB in the upper half of the ACC, that will be a success

I'm not definind success as beating UConn or South Carolina. I'm defining
success as being able to beat the top teams in your own league. That's what you have to do to win your league. Marquette was not able to beat UConn more than once while Duffy was their coach. And thus she never won that league.
So my concern is, can she beat the top teasm in the ACC? I hope so, but great coaches find a way to do more with less. Now if you want to say that winning the ACC is not our goal, then fine we can lower our expectations.
BTW, ND has a 2-1 record against UConn over the last 3 years so there are teams that can beat them.

Yes but the difference is, he won the league. Duffy never did.
Kenny also consistently beat NCST, Louisville, UNC, and Duke over the last few years.
I don't want this to sound like I'm bashing Duffy, but I'm not seeing any "oh wow look at thats" on her resume.

She played at Notre Dame. She has a .700 winning percentage. She’s win 20+ games every year accept the Covid year when she won 19. Duffy’s teams made three trips to the WNIT and three to the NCAA tourney.
Now a critique might be her teams have never lasted past the first round. But overall, Duffy has had a great career in women’s basketball as a player and coach.
We’ll see if she can beat Notre Dame, Stanford, UVa, Duke and UNC. But given the resources, there is zero reason to think she’s not able to keep the women’s basketball program roughly where it was under Brooks.

Marquette as also won their conference (regular season champs in 2018 and 2019) and tournament champs in 2017. Admittedly they have never made a final four, or even sweet 16 but they've been to the NCAA 15 out of the last 30 years.

WBB is so dependent on height in the front court. You’ve got to have that aircraft carrier at least at center or forward and UConn always has/had that.
I’d have to look at how Duffy’s teams matched up against UConn position wise.

was hired as the coach - and of course UConn was not in the BE that year.

She IS OUR coach now, so we should get on board and give her our support. This is a big move to the ACC as you allude, so having us behind her can only be positive.
