Stop the boo hooing. If we win a couple more games we are a host no bout
a doubt it. We were bubble with a prayer. Maybe Chip flirted with the Committee Chair’s wife … no. We just have to start winning more games against good teams. No cigar. But good season ladies. You are fun

And UgA says no problem in getting
***** slapped by the Hokies in Athens by a combined score of 18-6… 6-0 against the $EC wasn’t enough and that was against two playoff teams ( USCe)…UGA is the one that really “ smells” as a host .. must start scheduling more teams that we can lose to … a loss to a good team is Better than beating cream puffs.. ** Edited by sacramento hokie at 5/11/2026, 8:02:42 AM

Not according to the committee’s comments about hotejs.
Unless that parameter magically goes away if we weren’t a bubble team but solidly in the field like a top 20 or 12 seed.

We won enough vs good teams; we lost 2 vs mediocre ones and 1 bad team
And we wouldn’t have hosted due to graduation as I predicted/feared a couple months ago

Run it up Herman. Leave no doubt
There is a point at which they can’t deny us. Other teams had better credentials than us

They can say that the seeding had nothing to do with VT's inability to
meet the requirements to host until they are blue in the face and I will still not believe them. I get graduation is an issue when it comes to hotel space but you are telling me that if VT were the #1 overall seed that they could not figure something out? How hard exactly did this athletic deparment work to get approval? Did they work as hard as this team did to make it happen? Based on how bad this department has handled day to day things I somehow doubt it.

Wasn’t it VERY convenient that we came in 17th?

The rep talking was from Clemson and she said Clemson would have faced a
similar issue if the dates had coincided.

I think what we have to believe is that the committee would tell us that we
are a top 16 seed (1, 8 or 14) and then say that we cannot physically host because we don’t meet the requirements. Unfortunately, because we keep finding ourself on the hosting bubble, people won’t believe it.

Agree. The committee’s ranking doesn’t matter if we had zero shot anyway.
This basically says we could have been the TOP seeded team in the country but we still would not host because of the hotel issue. This is on Whit and the VT admin. NO other school has this hotel issue. It makes us the laughing stock of the P4 to not be able to figure this out.

I think your 1st sentence is completely wrong.
So let me say it this way. If Bama, OU, Texas whatever other real big historic name was in the same place, then the "Committee" would have bent over backwards to work it out, waiving the time/distance travel or even the game times to work around the graduation. But we were neither a #1 seed nor a historic national name so the NCAA was not going to make the kind of effort I described. We made it an easy work around because we were in the 15 to 20 range and are not a historic national name. And I am pretty sure you are incorrect about "no other school has this hotel issue." My guess is there are a lot that could face this problem. Especially those within geographic areas like we are AND have a much bigger event already scheduled. And I will make one more guess. If you think an AD, any AD especially at a non blueblood could handle this and deliver a host bid to their school, then I think you will be disappointed in our next AD and the next and so on.

Yeah, but what they are implying is that they would tell us what our
ranking is and then say BUT, we didn't meet the requirements to host. And they could do that. Why would they want to take the heat for fudging the results if it's not really their doing? They can throw it back on the administration if that's the truth.

What is it that you would have liked them to do?

Are you saying Whit and the VT admin should be building hotels? Where is
that money coming from? ** Edited by Blueboy at 5/11/2026, 12:33:41 AM

Long story, but graduation should be (and used to be) BEFORE regionals
Then, this wouldn’t be a problem. And I’m not suggesting they move graduation solely to accommodate softball. I’m suggesting they go back to the “old” (early 2000s) academic calendar when graduation was the 2nd weekend in May. But they felt the need to add a Fall semester break, so graduation got pushed back and here we are. There was really no need to add a formal Fall break. They already get Thanksgiving break.

Agree Graduation should be before regionals.
That said, Fall semester end date had no effect on the beginning of spring semester. Spring semester began Jan 20th. Spring semester could have just as easily began Jan 13th. Problem solved.

Correct. Why the students need a week of fall break is beyond me! We have
had graduation no later than Mother’s Day for a long time. We’ve flipped with Radford so we hit Mother’s Day every other year and the weekend before it every other year. The students get way too much time off during the year, especially considering how many online classes they have. Hurts us in attendance for ACC basketball games, too.

Agree, there is way too much off time.
Maybe I'm too old now, but I don't remember as much off time way back when we were on the Qtr system.

Non conf rpi
One graphic I saw showed a really bad non conf rpi. Is this something can improve. I figured was because local schools we play on weeknights aren't very good and would cost more $ to get better teams.

Huh? For starters, check out yesterday's USA Today article...
...and what do.you want him to do? "D'Amour has at least one vocal supporter in his corner: ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. He believes the Hokies should be a top 16 seed, along with Florida State, Stanford and Duke." “To me, there's been four ACC teams that have distinguished themselves to host,” Phillips told USA TODAY Sports. “Virginia Tech is a team that's been tremendous all year. It played in the championship game, lost a one-run game. Strength of schedule, RPI and all of those indexes indicate that they are certainly worthy of a top 16 spot.” ** Edited by I love VT! at 5/11/2026, 12:51:10 AM
