Pete has said that he’s being treated very fairly by the administration. So really no use to make a public spectacle. In all fairness @VTChip has brought much good publicity about the program and has had a very positive affect on the program.

Chip's success, in and of itself, is an embarrassment to Whit and his Minions. Conversely, that embarrassment probably translates into animosity towards Chip by them. Kind of a double edged sword.

let people walk up and drop in donations every game and have someone collect it every game. You got 1,000 security gaurds sitting there watching. Decorate the bucket really cool and just sit it there and have the PA announcer every so often say " friends of VT softball remember our VT softball love bucket sits down behind homeplate and all proceeds go to support our girls, thank you." I bet they could rake some serious cash during the year.

end of the year the Athletic Department allocates 5 or 10 bucks to the softball program per head. So if the yearly attendance was 20 thousand they would give them $100,000 bucks if they used $5 per head. That way Whit does not have to spend all this money he claims it would take to charge admission. The team deserves something for consistently filling up the place.

revenue that would be received. It is very possible that what is happening now is actually bringing more revenue to the softball program. Over the last few years I have sent Chip a check for softball each year, and the amounts are far greater than the price I would pay for a ticket. One year I was only able to attend 1 game but sent $300. I believe I am not the only one who fits that description, and possibly more money comes in from contributions than would ever come in through gate receipts. Plus the gate receipts go into the athletic departments general fund, so possibly only a small percentage of the gate receipts would go to softball. I have not seen Whit's numbers and haven't analyzed it but he could be correct. With Chip's fundraising abilities there is additional revenue without any department involvement or cost. Is it possible that the department is considering an upgrade to the softball facilities, and does not want to spend money now that would be better spent later when all fencing and security measures could be addressed? I don't know, just a possibility. As much as the department seeks revenue I don't think Whit would refuse the revenue if he though it would bring in more than it would cost.

The only reason there's no admission at TSP is probably because Whit has farmed out seating to an independent outside contractor. Instead of doing those some things ourselves, by students who would love the real world business experience, Whit hires outside contractors and it is those people who cannot make charging admission work at TSP. When the NCAA forces us to sell tickets at TSP during the WCWS playoffs - somehow we make it work.

not to the specific sport. if you want to "buy" tickets, just hand @VTChip a $5 or $10 per person donation. This way it will go directly to the SB program. I'm all for helping the program as much as possible.
