Anyone else really tired of the SEC dominance in
so many sports? Football championships, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and six of the top seven teams in softball. B1G has some good football teams, but other schools and conferences are really being squeezed out. I used to love college sports, but am losing interest.

Sadly, it's all about the money
I'm just thankful that VT kept Pete when Auburn came calling.

They haven’t had a football team in final game the last 2 CFPs
Ironically

Hell, yes, I am. Beyond tired. The omnipotent, almighty SEC.

SEC
The SEC only had 1 team in football final 4 and no teams in championship game.

Doesn’t matter if we’re tired of it, this was the plan all along. Get huge
money from football and then filter it down to the other sports. They successfully pushed the narrative that the SEC is infinitely better than any other football conference and that’s given them a massive advantage in all sports.

The Money Differential is Large, and Widening
Tech will never have the money to compete at the top level of any sport. The future is the SEC / ESPN with the NIL banking it all. We can’t even afford a Men’s Bball team this year. We just need to set our sights on doing well against our peers in the ACC, and winning at home as much as possible

I’m more tired of us always losing to ranked teams
No hitters don’t mean as much when you’re playing the below avg teams, but you see where we really stand when we play real competition. Another good Tech team, but nothing special. We just don’t have the talent to hang with the elites…..same story in every sport. But I’m glad we found out early. IWII.

To me, this is where coaching matters more than ever
Pete didn’t really know what he had until we played an elite team. LSU certainly appears to be elite. Bama may be elite also but likely a step below LSU. Now, how do we respond against Bama? Pete is still a great coach even if we lose both of those games, but his ability to keep the team’s confidence up while at the same time drilling in some improvements that are needed will be key. The season is not a disappointment because we lost twice to LSU. There are still many, many chances to pick up quality wins. Bama, Kentucky, Stanford, Cal, UVA, FSU to name a few. The reason you play LSU and Bama early is to see where your team is at. Good formula is to lose to high RPI non-conference teams early, make improvements, grow as a team, beat good RPI conference opponents late, get some momentum heading into the post season, then beat whoever you face in the post season. Easier said than done, of course, but we are still on step 1 of this cycle. Enjoy the ride. There will be plenty of highs and hopefully not too many lows. ** Edited by HolidayInnHokie at 2/16/2025, 9:30:00 PM

Excellent points. It's still early
The things that cost us the game today can be fixed and I think Pete will fix them

Same guy that said WBB wouldn't beat UVA
ToledoHokie: We won’t beat UVA This team can’t hang with ranked teams or teams that are above avg. Just a very middle of the pack team…the talent just isn’t there. If we can’t recruit we are doomed to be a middle of the pack program.

Had to look because I had the poster muted…Toledo is an eeyore
Not worth reading.

Hard to watch if the games are not televised. If only the ACC had a
network so VT fans could watch Lemley throw 2 perfect games in a row,

I watched today. LSU had some elite hitters…you could tell by their
Approaches Super good at going with pitches or hitting mistakes

Yes, fortunately the SECN broadcasted the game. However, if you compare
the content available on the SECN to the ACCN, then you see why people are frustrated with the situation. There is no reason ESPN shouldn't identify the sports that are most "important" to the ACC and make sure the bulk of the content for that sport is at least available to ACC fans on the ACCN. Particularly if one of the other ESPN Family of Networks isn't broadcasting the event.

It’s about who hosts games. Our home games are all on
Problem is we don’t have many home games early due to weather
VTHokie2000 VTHokie2000
I don't believe that is necessarily true. The SECN televised the San Diego
State vs. Alabama game in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational Presented by EvoShield even though the game was played in Clearwater, FL. The SECN also televised the Liberty vs. Missouri game in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational Presented by EvoShield. Plus, it appears when the SECN isn't broadcasting a softball game then the bulk of them (especially the "away" games or tournament games) will appear on ESPN+. My point is that even if the ACCN can't broadcast the game for whatever reason, there is no reason for ESPN to not broadcast them on ESPN+.

Northwestern was ranked 21. We won at Bama and Auburn last year
We beat ranked teams…we also lose to them. LSU isn’t just ranked…they’re probably top 5
hokiepro hokiepro
I guarantee you ranked teams will go to Baton Rouge this year and lose
Series or even get swept
