Posting History (153)

I’m an old guy, Class of 69.

I’m coming from Raleigh area. With petrol and lodging, a couple extra bucks for a ticket is no big deal.

ESPN streaming is part of my cable package

I ended up finding the replay at the bottom of the page. I fast forwarded to where I left off and finished the game. Unfortunately, I already knew the final score. Thanks for the insight.

What’s with ESPN?

I started watching the game at 3 PM, not realizing the game started early. ESPN gave me the option of watching live or from the beginning. I wanted to see the whole game so I chose from the beginning. At the top of the fourth, the screen says “This game has concluded” and the broadcast stops. It would not continue and show the rest of the game. That stinks! What the heck are they doing?

Not sure if anybody mentioned this. Every time

after a pitch that the UNC catcher pointed back at the pitcher, the umpire called a strike. Every time. He was being manipulated.

That overall record against Virginia is

Similar to the football overall record. I think it’s something like 62-34.

Does anyone have the same problem I have

When I am on the website and click on different links to other boards or non-subscriber articles, a totally blank page comes up.

I find myself rooting for a Notre Dame

I don’t particularly care for Hidalgo, but if Coach Ivey is successful, they’ll stay away from Coach Duffy.

This may be a little off topic, but

last night McKendree University of Lebanon Ohio won the first NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championship. They eked out the win over Iowa. We have a good wrestling program with good coaching and facilities. If we were to add Women’s Wrestling to our athletics programs we cold quickly compete for the title and possibly win our first national championship.

I like it when we win the games we’re supposed to win

It’s really disheartening when we get beat by an inferior opponent. This team has been able to win those games. When we play good teams, I hope for the win, but really am satisfied with a good solid effort. Sometimes the other team just has better players. We’ve got some tough games coming up, hope we can steal a few.

They moved to the area

Liz is a legend, Raven’s orange wig is iconic. They’ve been at every game I’ve been to. They are a great part of the Hokie family.

My wife and I want to travel to see

either the Garner-Webb or Coastal Carolina game. We are in our late 70s and don’t get to attend many games. Instead of getting general admission seats, we’d like to sit closer to the court. How can we get seats from season ticket holders who can’t attend?

They became relevant quickly in Softball

With the smaller roster in basketball it can be turned around fast. With $$$ and good recruiting Poppie could have a great program in a couple years .

Does anyone else get that spinning, verifying you’re a human thing

when they pull up a new board? Every time I go between boards, it shows up. Gets a little irritating.

I kind of ignore 3 pointers on highlight videos

I mean, it’s highlights, they aren’t going to show misses. I do like her moves around the basket. She seems coordinated, athletic, smooth and comfortable. It would be good to know if she is physical. She’s likely to be used down low with VT.

Basketball has fewer players, fewer NIL deals to negotiate

Financial competitiveness is easier to attain in basketball. Duke can afford a basketball 4.5M NIL deal, not a full football program of expensive NIL contracts.

Sellouts are easier when you have less seats

A few years ago, They reduced Keenan capacity from 63,000 to 50,000. When they join SEC/B1G, they will have to expand again.

Sounds like they want to be in a more

controlled environment with more resources if they need them. Not a bad thing. Your health is foremost. We need you around, listen to the Docs. Hopefully, your Medicare and insurance have it covered.

ACC Tournament is single elimination, thus less reflective of

the overall quality of your team. The more important measures of ranking/RPI/KPI etc. is the results of the two upcoming series. Both our pitching and hitting need to be on to get a good NCAA seeding.

It amazes me that out of 33 games this year, only 8 have been at home

Have we had this type of schedule before? Has it had much effect on our record? Does it help our RPI much? It seems to me that it gives our players a lot of confidence that they can win no matter what the surroundings. But it does deprive them from playing in front of friends and crazy Hokie fans. It also means Hokie fans see a lot fewer games.

I agree with Muffet

She doesn’t like total free agency. Needs to some way be limited in number of tansfers a player can make or when they can transfer. Also she said whoever has the most money wins.

Can anyone give a portal timeline

I know that some have entered and the Do Not Contact players have usually made their choice, but don’t the decisions get announced fairly quickly? When does this take place, just after the Championship?

I support ABSEC

Anybody else tired of the SEC takeover of college sports? Football, basketball (men and women’s), softball, and probably many others. I really don’t like being second tier, losing our rising stars to portal, watching players and programs being bought. I know NIL and portal have changed the game, but SEC is the greatest benefactor.

Amoore came to Tech because Brooks recruited her. She was

his alter ego. Had she stayed at Tech, her jersey might have been in the rafters with Liz’s. Instead it will hang in Brook’s basement. Her choice. Se la vie, let it go.

I’m disappointed by the losses to Cal and BC, but

those aside, the year went better than I expected. KB did not leave a lot in the cupboard, but Coach Duffy looks like a great replacement. She was successful in getting team unity, team performance and a great culture started again. Matilda and Rose will be dearly missed and are great Hokies. Cary’s is a rising star. I think we can plug some holes from the portal, but we will see if CMD can recruit and develop productive talent. All in all, I thank all the players for all their work and a good season.

Mimi has numerous offers including

Harvard, Princeton and Penn. if they believe she can keep up with the academics, she’s a very bright girl.

When I was in high school in the early sixties

It was. What’s the word, Thunderbird, what’s the price, twenty five twice

This may be unpopular, but

I really like to watch games where Tech wins. I don’t like watching the losses. I am not a defeatist or expect Tech to tank at the end of the season. There is prestige to making the NCAA tournament, but realistically we might win a play-in game but that is it. We just don’t have the players this year to play with the big girls when they are focused. Playing in the WNIT, we most likely would get a home game or two and would be playing teams more on our level. I like to watch Tech win, the WNIT is not such a bad option.

Hidalgo is very, very good, but

she knows it. She thrashes to the basket and falls down every time. She expects to draw fouls when she flops.

Anyone else really tired of the SEC dominance in

so many sports? Football championships, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and six of the top seven teams in softball. B1G has some good football teams, but other schools and conferences are really being squeezed out. I used to love college sports, but am losing interest.

Agreed, NC State and Wes Moore are so much easier

to root for. Moore is a competent coach, respectful and consistently competitive. Banghart can be a jerk.

The finesse game is prettier to watch and might require more

coaching and practice, but when you have players who are strong, physical and fight for space, it is hard to counter with pretty. When Kenny was here, it always frustrated me when our players would get pushed around. Often the refs let it happen and it affected the game. You’re right, the SEC has battlers and physical players and the refs let it go. The Fightin’ Brookses need to change their game.

Did anyone else notice when Wenzel was shooting free throws

with a little over a minute left, Liz was covering her eyes, she couldn’t watch. I think she really wanted to be on the court.

The Vick years were followed by twelve years of excellence,

the golden years of VT football. I hope the Women’s Basketball team under Coach Duffy can rebound and continue the excellence of the last three or four years. The football team faces huge challenges with NIL, the portal, open free agency every year and the deep pockets of SEC and B1G. Like you, my hope is in the other sports.

Brooks caught lightning in a bottle

when he pulled Kitley, Amoore and King and with supporting fill ins made magic happen. We have yet to prove we are a women’s basketball power. Right now, our wrestling team and softball teams are the most competitive. Women’s soccer had a good run this year.
