If you don't have other players with good OBPs, continuing to lead Cori
off can make sense because you maximize the ABs of your most productive player.. But, we have had several players with OBPs in ACC play close to .500. Cori's wasn't that much higher. I would have led off one of them and batted Cori 3rd. MLB still bats their Cori type 3rd, high average with power. And they have $$ at stake to make the optimal decision. So, I think that's pretty good support for that model. MLB does bat Ohtani and Witt second, because of their speed also.
It seems like there is a pretty strong "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" in sports. To the point of superstition sometimes. And you don't have 162 games to try things. Cori's HR pace picked up when she began to lead off. Maybe she sees better pitches because no one wants to walk the first hitter of the game. And she has some speed. We have had a strong offense. So, I can't blame Pete for just leaving things as they are at this point in the season. He did a lot of shifting throughout the season and seems settled on this.
As a fan, you do go "darn" when Cori keeps hitting HRs with nobody on. We don't have a lot of close low scoring games. But, that is the situation where the extra CM RBI could make a difference.

This is a great reason she’s batting lead off instead of the 3/4 hole…..
