McMurphy follow up interview: UNC UVa Utah(!)
Watch a full interview instead of a short clip.
McMurphy was alwasy bullish about UNC and UVa. He also liked to talk about the ACC implosion scenario.
But in this latest interview, he said 5 AAU B12 schools are also candidates for the B10 in addition to 8 AAU ACC schools and specifically mentioned Utah.
I’ve been saying this: if the P2 adds more than four schools, Big 12 schools should be in the mix. Some Big 12 schools including Utah and Kansas are definitely jockeying for a P2 spot. Of course same thing for the ACC schools.

Especially if they go to 20 teams, which would make for a division of 5 West Coast Teams. UVA would likely be the other, in a division that includes Maryland, PSU, and Rutgers.

Their students would hate it. At least the Big10 has top ranked schools in Michigan, Illinois, Northwestern, etc. The SEC has Vanderbilt and a host of WVU’s.

is important to them. There are big economic reasons to be in a northerly conference beyond sports. Honestly, it’s the same with Virginia Tech too.

including VT and FSU can be AAU with all the big schools support. If the big wants a school, they will be in the AAU very quickly with Big full support of entry.

I get it, I took on Andy Bitter when he mentioned the same thing was coming from his friends at the Athletic, people that still check 3 sources the old school way, but now like it or not, it’s not just from basement podcasters. It’s ESPN, Fox Sports, Yahoo Sports, and the Athletic. I know it’s scary news for Virginia Tech, and I didn’t like it when I heard it too. It also could change, but right now all RandomAsianGuy and I are doing is reporting what many others are saying about Conference Realignment, this is a CR board. Fine if you don’t believe it or like it, but don’t attack us please for reporting it. @Will Stewart this has been a great board for decades, because even when we disagreed, there was a moniker of respect. It didn’t matter the School or if we disagreed. Please let’s get back to that.

The question is to the networks and the conferences (is Va market worth taking both).

I think UVA will try to help VT, and vice versa if things change. However, to answer your question, yes I have experienced the politicians in Virginia at both the State and Federal level will do everything possible to help both schools. If they both make the P2, especially to the same conference, it will be a huge win for the state of Virginia!!

At this point, it really doesn't matter to me where Tech ends up. Sure, I'd love to see Tech in the Power 2 but if they end up in the second tier, so be it. I'm just weary of all the endless Big 10 and SEC superiority talk. Both those conferences are boring and predictable. Give me a good Sun Belt game any day. ;)

Now that they can be an odd number. It doesn’t matter.
I also own a business. From that perspective, I’m not picking up a line that won’t help me make money.

overall for the University, way more than the SEC. That said, the new UVA president will tell us a lot about where their mindset is for their conference.

printing the last 5 years. Same ole drivel designed for one thing: TO GET CLICKS. Guess where they get their "inside info."
From "insiders" that know nothing but has a "credible source" that's "in the know". They only keep their pathetic jobs if they have X number of views on their articles, and since there's absolutely no penalty for being 100% wrong, they print any crap they want to.
In the words of Sgt. Hulka, "LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS".

I get it if you don’t like it, I don’t like what I am hearing either, but the same thing keeps getting said by people in ESPN, Fox, Yahoo Sports and the Athletic, it’s probably got some merit. That said, it could change, but you will never recognize or remember I said that too.

avalanche of the same thing coming out. I didn't like it at first either, but like it or not, some of these people like Andy Bitter have better sources than we do on this topic.

to not react emotionally when your point of view is challenged. Here is the argument and points in a nutshell.
First, nobody said academics couldn't play some role but, that the driving force is the business of sports. Second, the point was not that the reporters did not know what they were talking about BUT, that understanding sources and motivations of those saying it was critical to understanding the meaning. Third, the fact that in this information age stories move so fast that the original story can be buttressed by subsequent stories relying on one another and that ultimately it results in circular reasoning and logic being validation of the original theory, see the reports of FSU and Clemson being gone from the ACC last summer if your memory needs refreshing. Fourth, I have answered each one of your posts and questions directly and not ducked anything. You just didn't like the answers you got and turned around and did exactly what you accused others of with regards to refusing to see. I hope this clarifies things for you and have a good weekend.

that is your right and choice. However, that neither recognizes nor solves YOUR real problem. Our latest back and forth once again highlights your issue that has existed for years on these boards.
You get a point(academics in realignment, the ACC headquarters in D.C., etc., etc.) in your head and when anyone challenges you you become emotional, fail to read and/or comprehend the posts in response and ignore the realities offered to counter your current fantasy at hand. Your emotional responses devolve into debating the poster rather than the post until your frustration leads you to an angry exit. These debates have seen me as a primary foil over the years and this latest one includes others such as @reestuart and @saret, to name just two. Good luck to you in your ongoing struggles.

Believe it at your own risk, regardless of the “media” source. The only way you will know for sure is when the conferences announce.
