There's a disturbance in the Force (re: FSU and Clemson leaving the ACC)
Was listening to the Flugaur show today, and he pumped the brakes on his own predictions. For weeks it's been the "chalk" that FSU and Clemson are coming to the B1G. But out of nowhere today he says he is "taking the L" and taking the betting line "off the board."
So basically all these FSU fanboi YouTubers and podcasters were saying "FSU will announce by June 30 or sometime this summer" might have had a dose of reality heaped upon them. Apparently you can't name it and claim it or speak it into existence like they thought.
I'm just reading between the lines here, but I think some Big Ten sources got a hold of Flugs and told him to stand down. Here's a summary (I listened so you don't have to).
1. Both the B1G and SEC are looking at UNC and ND FIRST.
2. After adding the west coast teams and with all the court, legislative and business turmoil, the B1G suddenly just wants to relax and let everything settle for a while.
3. Even one Penn State contributor said PSU is a NO vote on FSU for now.
4. Big Ten legal counsel won't even let the conference vet FSU and Clemson.
5. Not that FSU and Clemson won't end up there, but it is likely going to be longer than the rash, entitled, FSU firebrands are going to be happy about.
Anyway, take it for what it's worth (pure speculation all over the place). But I thought the nearly abrupt stop on this was worth mentioning to y'all.

Penn State caution makes sense. Neither FSU nor Clemson are AAU, so don't take much stock in B1G as a landing spot without AAU.
And of course having ESPN threaten FSU won't help for SEC.

up and burn their bridges with their conference partners if they don’t have an option that they believe is better. It is looking more and more like some version of the Mag 7 is their motivation. Notice how the leaders of the individual schools in the Mag 7 are not being combative in the media about their destabilizing behavior.

The B1G will expand beyond 2 or 3 more teams and it will happen before the current 12 team CFP deal expires.
VT will get a P2 opportunity -- or call it top tier football opportunity if you wish. Be ready when the time comes. Another division in football is coming from separation. Can't give details because there are no specifics at this time other than a new league is coming for those who can fit the new cost.
Take my source info or leave it...doesn't matter. Forums don't equate to money for clicks under an anonymous username.

Plan, they better hurry. Personally I just don't see it, though I would like to.

that there is no telling what she will do. Clemson has handled things in a manner so far that they have not burned bridges. Why would any schools be combative at present? They have nothing to gain from that stance.

The unintended consequences of FSU will be great ACC viewership this year. I wish we had them on our schedule.
Everyone on the East coast will be hate watching FSU games hoping they will lose.
Ironically, they actually had a popular pro wrestler from FSU, named Faarooq, part of the Doom duo! His catch phrase was "Damn!" and he was always feuding with Mick Foley. LOL. He even played for Bobby Bowden on the football team.

FSU will be the team that began constructing the path for VT (among ACC others) into the P2.
Not that it would not have happened anyway, but they were bold enough to be the ignition. Poke at them all you wish now until it's the Hokies' turn to throw the rock. FSU only moved first because they had a landing spot.

Unusually contrite for Flugaur. Someone definitely sent him a message from the B1G. My take on the key points:
1. True, but that's preference, not necessarily timeline.
2. Again, that's what they should do, but changing circumstances could cause them to act.
3. Plausible, but I don't know the source
4. False. This is no more than legal cover. Everyone has been vetted, including us. They have their wish list and a plan, with contingencies.
5. True. Legal and legislative issues need to be resolved first
Greg's insistence that FSU and Clemson have received no assurances of an invite doesn't make sense. There were handshake agreements and they were done through intermediaries, imo. I feel like Flugaur has been asked to shut up about FSU and Clemson, not because it won't happen, but because he's hurting the B1G's negotiations versus SEC.

He LOVES to say that USC called the Big Ten first. And UCLA called the Big Ten first. Not the other way around. He says the Big Ten never call first.
This may or may not be true. But he repeats it so often and in a seemingly contrived way, that it makes me think it's not true. But Big Ten Legal doesn't want the conference to be viewed as tampering. So that's why it's often repeated, regardless if it's true or not.
He also says the UNC and UVa turned down the Big Ten in the past. And my question is, if the Big Ten always calls first, how did UNC and UVa turn them down? Did they just call the B10 and say "I know you didn't ask, but we are turning you down anyway." That's absurd. Neither can both be true.
He also says that USC and UCLA didn't talk to one another before each called the Big Ten. That's even less believable.

number 4. It is all legal cover because they have played fast and loose with trying to move the narrative while ignoring potential legal issues and assuming the ACC will rollover and cave like the PAC 12. The ACC may still do that at some point but, they likely get paid in the process. I can tell you this, the ACC is aware of what is said by who and when. They learned the B1G's word was worthless and the ACC and their lawyers and administrators will carefully use any leverage available to their advantage.

wants to get organized set things in order.
FSU and Clemson will still go full steam to exit The ACC. The events in the queue need to follow a particular sequence. Before The B1G will deal with FSU or others, they want to know the intentions of Notre Dame and UNC. It will just tell them how much they should acquire further south. If ND and UNC say "no" The B1G will spend their money in Florida and maybe SC. If ND and/or UNC go B1G, Clemson might be left behind.
The reason Clemson is trying to go first is just to be available ahead of anyone else. That may not work-out for them. (Although it worked for Yormark and The B1G 12)
Also of note: If FSU gets out soon, The B1G will approach them immediately and might invite them, depending on what they know about ND/UNC.

because their future is uncertain after Dabo leaves. FSU has a much more stable athletic program and brand.
I would think that both the SEC and B1G would prefer to wait and see how their newest acquisitions work out before adding anyone else. That would be the prudent thing to do. The CFP deal already gives them a competitive advantage.

Hot qb, amazing number of returning players, a good schedule, amazing media story.
Would DEFINITELY change the media perception... and marketing perception. and business case. good for not only any realignment discussions, but branding rights fees..... national brands. all good

the transfers and recruiting of KU at the moment. Now, if they can only win a conference championship, get into the playoffs, but more importantly, keep their coach - this may snowball into something. Hurly staying at UConn is good for the game, and will pay dividends in recruiting for that school as long as the eye can see. We need more of that.

take them. Regardless of what ND and UNC do.
WRT to FSU, I think they are B1G or bust. I think to a fault they hate the SEC and ESPN and want to go their own way.
WRT Clemson, I think they just want out, and they realize that they've had a good run and they need to strike while the iron is hot. I even think they'd prefer the SEC, but if FSU goes to the B1G, they'd be fine with being their travel partner and would see it as a great opportunity for the whole school.
WRT ND, I'm not really sure why there is all this talk about them jumping to the B1G now. If everyone is pumping the brakes to wait on ND, they might be waiting a while, a LONG while.

I can only reiterate again, if FSU/Clemson have no where to go while filing extremely expensive lawsuits involving billions of dollars to get out of the league where they currently reside, their administration has to be the most imbecilic business decision makers in the history of sports. They are not.
Every source I know has one universal commonality at this point: the realignment rumors are going to fly before July 4. And I'm not just talking FSU/Clemson because this is about much more than those two. Strap in.
My latest rumor: When FSU leaves, Notre Dame is next. The Irish will agree to stay Independent in football while playing a guaranteed amount of contracted games with the B1G (and possibly with the SEC too). Notre Dame will join the Big East for all other sports. The person at NBC who told me this mentioned back in May to watch for NBC to make a partnership deal to televise Big East basketball. OK, that just happened. But I am still not sold on this realignment rumor. Just relaying and adding to the mill.
I am still sold on FSU/Clemson splitting, much sooner than anyone expects and then the real fireworks get crazy for others to jump on the P2 boat. We'll see.
Personally, FSU/Clemson staying in the ACC for at least two more seasons is way more beneficial to winning their conference and getting that automatic CFP bid. FSU/Clemson have won the ACC in 12 of the last 13 years. It's a far more weaker football league after those two. But money is the driver. I'm alright Jack keep your hands off my stack.

Academic affiliation are important to their faculty.
That said, FSU, Clemson, Virginia Tech and NC State to the SEC, would not shock me either.
All of those are cultural fits.
(In response to this post by Maroon Baboon)
Good thing about Tech is....
Tech fits culturally in both conferences. IMHO, I don't think Clemson is a good fit culturally for the Big 10. UVA isn't a good fit culturally for the SEC.
Here's how I see the cultural fits:
BC - none
Cal - Big 10
Clemson - SEC
Duke - Big 10
FSU - SEC & Big 10
GA Tech - Big 10 and would be like Vandy if in the SEC
Louisville - SEC
Miami - Big 10
UNC - Big 10 & SEC
NC State - SEC
Notre Dame - Big 10
Pitt - Big 10
SMU - none
Stanford - Big 10 (especially if Notre Dame joined)
Syracuse - borderline Big 10 (mainly because of geography)
UVA - Big 10 & borderline at best in the SEC
VA Tech - SEC & Big 10
Wake Forest - none

"Boston Market." GT is not a blip on the Atlanta sports scene. Unlike Boston, Atlanta does love college football but it is UGA and the SEC that owns Atlanta's heart.

so big, they could probably make money, especially if Clemson and FSU were also B1G.
The SEC just can't use them.

The Big10 would be their only P2 possibility. UGA had Georgia in spades and GT would be beyond redundant. Maybe the Big10 wants the market, but can they pay for themselves? If Oregon and Washington can’t, how can GT?
