1 cupcake game and 1 legit OOC game seems right to me. Schools like, Clemson and South Carolina would cry about this, but they don’t have to play each other every year if they don’t want to.

is complete garbage. ACC's is better, but the ACC's early season slate is where it looks ugly.

bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship, then it's georgia and bama both getting invites, then you have the Michigan Ohio State winner, and if Washington beats Oregon state and Oregon in the PAC championship, the strength of schedule will push them ahead of FSU. FSU played some good names, but Clemson, Miami, LSU and Florida are all having down years.

The selection committee won't pick a school from a dead conference if they don't have to.

Ditto for the winner of the McChicken/Bucknuts game.

in the year with 5 away conference games because most (big name?) teams are now playing 7 home games every year for financial reasons. FWIW that was the reason Auburn gave for cancelling its home-home series with VT because Auburn would have only played 6 home games the season it would have played at VT.

But I'd rather be playing conference games. We like these conference members well enough to bring them here. So I say play them. I know scheduling games that involve buses rather than planes saves travel, but I prefer the conference games. They didn't ask me though.

will only play 1 away/neutral site game in the year with 4 away conference games and 0 away/neutral game in the year with 5 away conference games. For example, Iowa played 5 away conference games in 2022. Its OOC schedule (all home games) was the following: South Dakota St, Iowa St, and Nevada. If I looked through Iowa's past schedules, then I suspect I would not find a season where Iowa played 2 OOC games against P5 opponents. That could be a problem given the ACC's scheduling requirement with Notre Dame and 4 members have annual OOC games against SEC opponents. If you look at VT's future OOC schedule through 2035, then VT scheduled to play 2 P5s opponents every season except 2026 and 2031 (as of right now). I doubt you would find too many ADs who would be willing to trade the extra P5 opponent for an extra conference game. At least I don't think too many ADs would trade away a money game for an extra conference game and keep the 2 P5 opponents now that the CFP is expanding to 12 teams. USC might be the only team who opted to schedule 3 P5 opponents in the same season (see examples below). 2008: at UVA, Ohio St, Notre Dame 2010: UVA, at Minn, Notre Dame 2011: Minn, Syracuse, at Notre Dame If fans want to see their teams play more quality OOC games, then someone will need to figure out a way to increase the incentive enough so ADs are more willing to take on the additional risk.

Purdue is the only one with 2 in a season scheduled for the next 5-6 years. In the ACC, almost every school has at least 2 P4 schools scheduled each year for the next 5-6 years. Yes, there are some FCS and G5 schools scheduled, but most of the SEC. Big XII, and Big10 also have FCS/G5 schools making up games 11 and 12. Network talking heads may ***** about it, but the network honchos love those games because they add more inventory for them. On Sept 9, Disney had 14 games in their ACC inventory because everyone is play OOC. On October 14, Disney had 5 games total in their ACC inventory because teams were playing in conference and had byes. The only way to add inventory is to expand the conference, or add OOC games.

an article to confirm it. I did find an article where James Phillips said he wanted the members to only play away games at P5 schools and Army. If the ACC didn't consider Army as an acceptable fulfillment of that requirement, then I am not sure why he would have included them in the statement.

But the games got moved to 2036-36 back in 2022, so there probably wasn't a P5 school available. They have 2 P4 games a season starting next season.
