Does SMU have more money than Texas A&M?
So A&M is paying $75 Million to make Jimbo go away. This is the most ever for a buyout. I've heard SMU alums are the bosses of A&M alums. Not knowing much about how much money each school has for football. It would amaze me if SMU could compete at that level. If so, they will be an excellent addition to the ACC. Anyone know if they are willing to outspend A&M and get a piece of their top 5 recruiting classes?

I see why players want, and ultimately will get paid.
They are playing for a scholarship, yet Jimbo is getting $75,000,000.00 just to go away.

Tv executives and administrators are getting filthy stinking rich (proclaiming the glories of amateurism all the while) while the players get peanuts in comparison. I'm a conservative and a devout proponent of capitalism, mind you, but college athletics is beyond absurd.

Or perhaps an oligarchy of university boards. NCAA has little control of the situation. The lack of oversight and lack of ability to utilize the free market has been restrictive in my view. There should not be a need to jump around among conferences. The collusion among schools and TV/media has created this nightmare.

Maybe we call it “young adult” athletics, as that would be more accurate. Or simply, “college athletics”.

I spoke to a surprisingly frank mid-upper level employee. He said if it wasn't for the super-rich, the race track would be a parking lot. The average joes that made up our group don't mean a thing in the big picture, and in fact are a drain.

both have enough resources to get things done. The question is do they have enough brains? A&M and Texas have been building a pretty solid case for years that they lack the brains. SMU's case got cut short about 40 years ago because they were arrogant and got caught. We'll see if they learned anything.

It may or many not be exactly legal under the rule book, but the NCAA has turned a blind eye to college football's "pay for play" schemes. Recruiting players off other teams (before they hit the portal), etc.

There's gonna be an Arms Race of epic proportions in Texas, and I'm here for it.
75 million to buyout Jimbo? Wow. Makes Fuente's buyout look like my check out bill at the Salvation Army.

inside track on being in the AAC Champ game. Believe their trajectory is rising and their Coach said they are already seeing a boost in recruiting from feedback from recruits. Not necessarily in commitments quite yet, but he said they are definitely in more favorable spots. Low # of commitments at the moment in this class - but pretty solid average ranking (per 247, 9 commits average 86.66).

There are so many other schools to root for in-state, most of the casual fans probably migrated away to A&M, UT and the like. Plus all the potential fans who were either kids in the 80s or born after have never had the chance to see SMU play any of the big boys other than the occasional non conference game.
If the ACC manages to hold together as-is, I think SMU will get competitive rather quickly. Personally I'm way more excited over them joining than Cal and Stanford.
