Suppose whatever conference(s) they are in adopts a schedule that does not accomodate the teams playing every year. Is the conference bound by this legislation?

IFthey cannot meet the state's requirements, well team x cannnot join. if team x brand worth is that big, there are always agreements.

ago. Then, they were saying UNC and NC State have to go together or basically both have to go to the P2. Now, UNC could go to the SEC and NC State could go to the Big XII and that would be fine as long as they schedule one another. Maybe they see the writing on the wall.

If the SEC is willing to take both NC State and UNC, the NC politicians would have pushed for it. The article said “If a conference were required to take both schools, it may be a dealbreaker.”

Not a UNC fan but Tar Heels are (much) more desirable than any B12 school and yes more than OU.

right about anything? The football worth just isn't there. They have had as much success in football as Washington State. Now, if the p2 start accumulating the basketball schools, you guys might be on to something, but until then, i think it is just wishful thinking.

It is less about how good the football program is and more about the national brand. And where UNC is not Texas, their brand is just as big or bigger than OU. It seems Big Media is pretty confident that with their backing a whole lot of schools can be a lot better in football but creating a new national brand is a lot harder.

We get too hung up with viewers being dedicated sports nuts like most of us. It isn’t about us nuts or even us alumni. It isn’t so much “hey, VT has 200K alumni in the DC market. Or VT has a better football record over the last three years or 20 years than UNC. It is about BRAND. Why? Because it is the very casual tv viewer just looking for some entertainment to fill up a few hours. They drive the millions of viewers who tune in and watch ads. Not rabid alumni. Said another way, think about Archie and Edith sitting in their chairs and Archie says “Edith, what do you want to watch tonight? NCIS or Notre Dame vs Southern Cal”? They don’t know what the teams records are. And that’s what has driven the consistently big numbers. Just my dumb uninformed opinion.

And let's face it, there are pundits like Flug, Locked on B12 guy, the WVU dude, and Monty, and there are real reporter like Pete Thamel. Pete Thamel and other real reporters said UNC is coveted by both the SEC and the Big 10....and you're saying that's just wishful thinking... lol. Remember it was the Big 10 that added UMCP, Rutgers, and UCLA. So much for football success...

pretty trite, and lame. I'm not insecure about this conference stuff, but if you feel the need to stick out your chest on the ACC's superiority, then knock yourself out. UCLA was a travel partner for USC, everyone knows that. Getting markets for the conference networks is no longer a viable business model - from any perspective. If it was, the ACC's recent additions would be making your conference rich. The Big 10 and the SEC got their contracts without UNC, or any other school in the ACC. Except for ND, there just isn't a school left that brings more money or value to the existing P2. This is also not an ESPN vs FOX thing anymore either - so there will not be any "defensive" moves by any conference or network. The ACC found a golden opportunity to establish their conference for years to come if they can make this uneven distribution thing work. If the ACC can work out the kinks, and the top programs make enough to compete with the P2, there will be no reason for any of them to leave. The weakness in that model will be the mid level football programs that will tire of getting less money than they currently do. The extension of the ACC contract put to bed any realignment move for the time being. It is now the uneven distribution model that the ACC should be focused on. UNC football has sucked wind since the beginning of time. If they leave, then that so called Big East merger will have been another opportunity your conference has missed, because it would mean, the future is now basketball.

I found it funny since I’ve seen many pro-B12 pundits repeatedly bring up the 'imminent ACC implosion' scenario (e.g., WVU dude’s ACC doomsday clock and the Locked on Big 12 guy). Going back to the main topic you're certainly entitled to your opinion but I'll take real reporters' word on this. "According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, North Carolina and Virginia are going to be “coveted” heavily by both the Big Ten and SEC. Thamel points out Notre Dame is the ultimate goal for both conferences but looking past the Fighting Irish, landing UNC and UVA will be a battle."

ND is first followed by the UNC clan. That said more because the huge following basketball brand . Kansas may very well be high. Uva and Duke both likely have Unc support. Duke brand is huge basketball and they can use that.

football one iota. Not one. If basketball was desirable for a better media contract, Arizona, KU, UConn, and even Gonzaga would have been swooped up by the P2. To think that it is different because they are ACC schools shows a bias, and is just not living in reality for now. That COULD change, but for now, those media contracts, and the conference moves, have been about football. I just do not see that changing in regards to the P2.
