People are factoring VT into this as if we would be playing in the Coastal.
That’s something that’s forgotten I think.
Consider the TV product and ticket sales involved if VT were playing in a new six team division of the B1G or SEC. I think we’re talking 24 teams each.
How about these as potential divisions?
B1G East: (the B1G dips into Virginia and NC along with Adding ND and Pac12 teams.)
PSU
Maryland
Rutgers
UNC
Ohio State
VT
This would be awesome for PSU and probably pretty decent for Ohio State. Both would desire a foothold in sourthern and eastern states for recruiting. (I realize some sort of cross division rival set up would be needed to keep OSU-Michigan alive.). Anyhow, VT would bring great TV ratings for all those teams. VT would sell tickets in all those stadiums too. VT would be one of Rutgers and Maryland’s biggest games of the year from a TV and ticket sales perspective. VT would represent pretty well for UNC, OSU, and PS also!
Now the SEC scenario looks even better! I think the SEC adds a VA and NC school while gobbling up the other desirable ACC properties.
Consider this division with VT:
VT
NC State
South Carolina
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vandy
Again, VT would bring ratings and ticket sales to those programs. I know we’re talking SC, Kentucky, and Vandy, but somebody’s gotta play them. VT would be a pretty big game for them all.
Amd when VT is playing any cross division games, we would be a draw also. Whenever we’ve went to Nebraska or LSU, we’ve always been prime time. Whenever we’ve played Alabama, we’ve always been prime time.

U see networks to adjust college football rights to essential brands . U see espn hands all over working behind the scenes on ok and texas to leave the big 12. USC and Ucla to the big 10
Networks want brands to deliver markets and not subsidize the under performing under investing programs. Its cold but its the business.
For networks who want to answer to a state response like equal carriage fees simply the networks can pull back. No network coverage of those under performing schools.
Obviously there is some fcc anti trust issues interstate issues. What happen the play for the game. So sad

UVa, VT, NC State, UNC, Clem, GT, FSU, and Miami. It keeps all of us from the SEC, and gives the B10 a stripe of nice demographically strong, football-loving, southern states. Let the SEC try to even get to 20 after that.
It forces ND's hand, too. Then the B10 wins.
With four groups of 6, I guess we would be in the NE group with Rutgers, MD, PSU and OSU, and UVa (or NC State). That works for me, but good luck winning that group!

what if super conference takes 8
i think the remaining schools could have case for damages from breaking contract by the eight however
total out of the box super conference just invites all and takes the loss leaders
Would create total market domination east coast and big ten from west to entire east coast
then for disney they are the not the center of national football just a thought

They just dissolved the conference, IIRC, leaving us and VCU behind.
Or maybe they kicked VT and VCU out and took what was left to the CUSA (merging with the Great Midwest).
Either way, we sued them and we got a pretty big payout, but we were not able to stop it. I assume that would happen if we had a breakout group from the ACC.
I think at some point 10 years or so ago there were rumors of six teams leaving the ACC and joining the B12. FSU boosters were the main drivers of that, IIRC. Maybe that will come up again?

Hasn't this happened through time. I think William and Mary, Richmond and VMI at one time competed same level. They finally were demoted. I do not know how it all plays out . I do think some schools now in P5 will one day be lowered to MTN West type league.

Jennings Culley of the RTD never quite wrapped his head around it. You could see something similar here as the Big 10 relentlessly imposes homogenization on a regional sport. Is Kevin Warren in the World Economic Forum?

ahead and blow it up. If that's the case, we will be one of the eight.

Actually, I think they get GT just to keep the B1G out of Georgia. SEC would be CRAZY to let the B1G into the South.
And considering the Rutgers, Md, PSU, OSU, NC State group. VT with $100 million in bowl/TV money coming in will win some games. They will sometimes win such a division. We can beat PSU every 2 or 3 years and OSU every 5 IMO.

Just look how well Miami has done since joining the ACC. Zero conference titles, and has never really challenged for any of them. Add in their EXTREMELY TINY alumni base, and you have the exact opposite of what the SEC and B1X are looking for in new candidates.

is some huge "must have" school. I think the SEC would be fine to take FSU which fits the SEC model to a 'T' and let Miami die on the vine. With the 2 biggest fanbases in the state. Miami would become irrelevant entirely. The BIG wouldn't care much either. There is nothing about Miami and/or Florida that makes them a good fit for the BIG. It's a big TV market, but the U isn't a big draw in that market.
The SEC has always understood what drives college football ... passionate fans and rivalries. One supports the other. You don't need to worry about specific media markets if you have a whole freaking state interested in your product. If the SEC has any futher targets, Miami ain't one of them. It'd be Clemson, FSU, UNC, VT, NCSU, and GT/UVa in that order because those additions would create instant rivalries that carry passionate fan bases in football.

I think the SEC takes 8 from ACC . Why? SEC/ESPN owns ACC. Plus rival games sell. SEE Ole Miss vs MSU.
VT, UVA, UNC, Clemson, GT, FSU, Duke(they sell in B'ball) and Miami(they sell). Those 8 will be in Division of own.
GA, USCe, Tenn, Vandy, KY, FLA, , , Bama, Auburn in their division
LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Ark, TAMU, UT, OU and Mizzou in a division
The Big takes Stanford, UW , Oregon, Cal, ASU , Utah, UCLA and USC for west division
Iowa, UW, Nebraska , Colorado, Minn, Illinois, NW, Indiana or division central
ND , MSU, Michigan, Purdue, PSU, MD, Rutgers and OSU

How would you see VT fitting into the B1G or SEC?

I obviously think we are gonna end up in one or the other. And mew divisions gotta be drawn up somehow. In either the B1G of the SEC, VTs gonna be a really good division partner. How would you draw up new divisions?

It depends if the B1G & SEC go beyond 20.
Tech gets in if the B1G and SEC go to 22 or 24. 20 would be borderline at best.

VT is in the top eight of the ACC from the B10/SEC prospective. If one of those leaves us behind, the other will pick us up and make them regret that.

They can’t leave passionate college fan bases and entire swaths of the country out of it and still get the ratings.
People in Oregon and Virginia watch college football too…at least they do right now. But if VT is relegated to the Mac I’m out as a college football fan. I would still attend and view vT games, probably not as much as I had admittedly, but I will have zero interest in Auburn versus Georgia.
I’ll follow VT as a niche product and then become more passionate about my NFL team. Heck, I’m already loving the new MLS team in Charlotte. That stuff’s fun!

If we aren't part of the P2 we'll continue on playing a schedule very similar to what we play now.

The gap will widen as they begin paying players. VT will get absolutely no players with B1G or SEC offer$, even Kentucky or Purdue.
Again, they’re becoming pros at that point. Kentucky will offer substantially more pay. It will be like a bball player turning down the NBA for the G League.
