People are factoring VT into this as if we would be playing in the Coastal.
That’s something that’s forgotten I think.
Consider the TV product and ticket sales involved if VT were playing in a new six team division of the B1G or SEC. I think we’re talking 24 teams each.
How about these as potential divisions?
B1G East: (the B1G dips into Virginia and NC along with Adding ND and Pac12 teams.)
PSU
Maryland
Rutgers
UNC
Ohio State
VT
This would be awesome for PSU and probably pretty decent for Ohio State. Both would desire a foothold in sourthern and eastern states for recruiting. (I realize some sort of cross division rival set up would be needed to keep OSU-Michigan alive.). Anyhow, VT would bring great TV ratings for all those teams. VT would sell tickets in all those stadiums too. VT would be one of Rutgers and Maryland’s biggest games of the year from a TV and ticket sales perspective. VT would represent pretty well for UNC, OSU, and PS also!
Now the SEC scenario looks even better! I think the SEC adds a VA and NC school while gobbling up the other desirable ACC properties.
Consider this division with VT:
VT
NC State
South Carolina
Kentucky
Tennessee
Vandy
Again, VT would bring ratings and ticket sales to those programs. I know we’re talking SC, Kentucky, and Vandy, but somebody’s gotta play them. VT would be a pretty big game for them all.
Amd when VT is playing any cross division games, we would be a draw also. Whenever we’ve went to Nebraska or LSU, we’ve always been prime time. Whenever we’ve played Alabama, we’ve always been prime time.
