one thing i was unaware of according to SI is if another team joins the acc, then the GoR is invalidated until it is rewritten and conference members sign on.
so if Phillips and acc try to reinforce the acc by expanding and bring in new members, it creates a GoR breach … and … opens the door for financial-penalty-free break-aways notably: free shoes and klumpsun.
and evidently at least a year ago - before these current volatile conference changing times - free shoes was not only reaching out but discussing with BOTH the B1G and SEC about joining their respective conferences.
the acc is as good as dead. it may still be breathing, but life support has been cut off. the members are looking out for their individual well-being and future. the body hasn’t been taken to the morgue, yet. so the death certificate/quality-of-viability cancellation hasn’t been written by media. it’s every university for themself.

They have been trying to get out of the ACC for 30 years. So yeah I believe at high levels FSU folks have ALWAYS been casing the situation. And if there is one school that will attempt to split/agitate conference members against each other for its own purposes it is them.
They are a snake, have always been a snake, will always continue to be a snake. The ACC should consider preemptively releasing FSU from their GOR at a reduced penalty ( to take effect a few years out) just to get it done. The ACC will have a better shot (not a great shot) at holding the conference together without F$U sabotaging things from within.

With respect to how it impacts the money in expansion, like where he says Clemson doesn't add to what the SEC already has since they're already in SC and SC not being a populous state. After getting into CA (#1), Texas (#2), and arguably NY (#4; or really NYC) with their expansions over the past decade or so, VA and NC are the next two most populous states up that the B1G and SEC aren't already in.

es it is mostly about football, but basketball does factor in - that is why teams like Duke and Kansas have value to the P2

The reason it's about football now is because the NCAA keeps a ton of the money generated from the basketball tournament to basically pay for its own funding and the costs of operations for their other sports tournament, etc. If/once the big conferences breakaway and do their own basketball championship tournament, then they keep all of that money like is done in football. Basketball brands are very important in that case to draw in unattached viewers. I can see Kansas and Duke being very valuable in that case.

Or guess it should be clemson and Pitt moving on based on the past few years.
FSU has won national titles. they carried the ACC for a long time. The are a big part of ACC football
And its not about being good right now, its about being a bigger brand. FSU is a big football brand stil
and i am not sure its about competing anymore.
