As far as I know, he has not given his position regarding the upcoming CFP format. The ACC coaches did, but not Phillips. Even Yormark said he prefers the 5-11. Why did he say that? Because it’s obvious that the B12 is not getting three AQs, and the 5-11 format is not as damaging to perception as the 4-4-2-2-1 for the B12. Then what abut the ACC? I believe the ACC’s position should be simple: three AQs if the AQ model is adopted; if not, then 5-11. No need to mention the good of college sports, fairness, G5, or the B12. The P2 is facing public backlash. If they want support from the ACC to get the AQ model implemented, then side with the in exchange of three AQs. If not, then side with the B12 and G5. You don’t need a PhD in politics to figure this out. Instead this is what Phillips said during the ACC spring meeting: “I remain steadfast about fairness in the system and access. Out of respect for my colleagues, I want to hold off on commenting about AQs and specific models.” He really blew the chance to send the message. I just think he is really bad at the PR game. What’s so difficult about advocating for the conference he is responsible for?
