as bad as it is becoming, the NFL will prevent any direct competition

the pretense of student athletes needs to be maintained to keep college football separate enough from the NFL to keep both sides happy. My guess is that things evolve into a hybrid model. Athletes get money (NIL and/or salary) and the academic requirements gets reduced. So maybe athletes still have to take classes but they are no longer required to be full time students. And the scholarship gets extended so they can finish their degrees after their playing eligibility is done.
