In MD, it can be a farm at 5 acres. And if you grow veggies or melons,
that's alot of acreage.

Maybe files a Schedule F on their taxes?

yeah, they get to all use Cash accounting instead of Accrual...
so it's easy to show a loss...just buy all of next year's seed, fertilizer and pesticides on Dec 31.

That deferral will eventually flip, it's like a ponzi scheme. There is
also, historically any ways, AMT that prevents too big of a deferral.

Makes sense. I would assume that the numbers are exaggerated some
considering how many people have "farms" (timber, livestock, horses, etc.) and take advantage of the tax write-off. Probably not a huge number though.
